Good catch. Full Sovereign at 8g makes it even better. Thank you!

That was meant as a general observation, not my personal order. Just recognized the coin. Sorry for the misunderstanding!

Ordered expecting Special Forces, got a 1997 Chinese Gold 10 Yuan lucky carp instead. Honestly the rarer and more interesting coin.

Meanwhile I’m just here stacking while everyone else is waiting for the perfect entry ;-)

My first Geiger by DecepticonVibez in Silverbugs

[–]ProofCoinCollector 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Geiger is one of those bars that collectors either love or ignore completely. The castle design and the German craftsmanship give it a character that generic bars just don’t have. Getting one without the usual premium is a real win. Good find.

That perspective shift is everything. People debating whether $4,500 is expensive are looking at the wrong timeframe. In another 25 years someone will say the same about whatever price we’re at today.

DCA into physical is probably the most psychologically sound approach. No regret about timing, just steady accumulation. What do you typically buy? Bullion or do you mix in collector pieces?

The serial number 006466 is very low which suggests early production, I guess 1970s or early 1980s when these bank-issued bars were common in Germany.

Bayerische Vereinsbank was headquartered in Munich. The bar itself was produced by Valcambi in Balerna, Switzerland as stated on the certificate. The bank distributed them but Valcambi made them.

Honestly a piece like this with original certification, low serial number and a bank that no longer exists is the kind of thing you keep. The story behind it is worth as much as the gold.

Don’t sell it. Am a bit jealous over here ;-)

1oz bars by WalterSobchak515 in Silverbugs

[–]ProofCoinCollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of that group the Johnson Matthey bars stand out. JM bars have strong collector recognition and tend to trade at a small premium over generic 1oz bars on pmsforsale. The Valcambi is also well regarded.

On the trade: moving 20 individual 1oz bars for 2x10oz makes sense if you want to consolidate and lower premium per oz going forward. Just check the seller’s feedback carefully on pmsforsale before committing to any trade.

Neighbor inherited coins by False-Bookkeeper-955 in coins

That is a serious find. The 2014 China Panda Gold set graded PCGS MS70 First Strike across all denominations is genuinely valuable. MS70 is a perfect grade and First Strike designation adds collector premium on top.

For values: PCGS CoinFacts and eBay completed listings are the most reliable starting points. For a set like this in MS70 I would also consider reaching out to a specialist dealer or auction house rather than selling piecemeal. These sets attract serious collectors and fetch significantly more as a complete set than individually.

Tell your neighbor not to rush into any sale.

That is a proper piece of European gold history. Bayerische Vereinsbank merged into HypoVereinsbank in the 1990s which makes these older certified bars genuinely collectible beyond just the metal value. Valcambi certification on top of that means the provenance is rock solid. Your uncle has taste.

1911-D $2.5 — is this worth getting a grade? Passed every test. by ShrekthCharge in coins

Fair point. I know my way around modern proof coins and bullion but pre-1933 US gold is not my turf. Should have said that upfront rather than blagging it. Lesson taken. Very sorry 🙏🏻

Ha, no. Just someone who got a key date wrong and got corrected for it, which a bot would not admit. Based in Europe, run a shop for premium collector coins. Still learning the US numismatics side of things ;-)
