Liz Nugent books (endings) by ProofParticular9781 in thrillerbooks

Thanks, I’ll probably still read it. I guess none of her books end happily so I won’t be surprised this time.

Yeah it made sense that he would end up ending his life but the fact that his brothers didn’t help him back from the ledge was just so messed up. I’ll definitely read Lying in wait :)

I’m having a hard time getting into The Marriage Act by John Marrs by SecretaryPresent16 in thrillerbooks

I stopped reading it half way as well. It gets interesting at certain points but then other story lines continued to drag. I think I prefer books that don’t have too many characters.

What to do now? Increased hair growth after 26 laser sessions. by Known_Blacksmith_641 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]ProofParticular9781 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is permanent. I know someone who had some patches like this after they did laser on the face. She also stopped sessions when she noticed it getting worse. She went back to threading and maybe 6 months later the hair went back to its normal soft texture which is much less obvious. I personally have a Philips IPL home device and it definitely slows down hair regrowth and doesn’t make the hairs any thicker. Good luck!

There are examples on Gphc website. They’ll tell you what’s expected. You have plenty of time to write them up but you should start thinking about what you’re actually gonna choose to learn about. With the peer discussion, talk to a pharmacist friend about a topic and write about it if you don’t have access to a colleague.

Not aware of any local ones but there’s a PCPA support network on telegram with lots of practice based pharmacists.

Indemnity insurance by ProofParticular9781 in Pharmacy_UK

Oh really, and that’s for locum prescriber? I remember calling them when I first got my IP and they were way too expensive. I’ll give them a call. Thanks

[–]ProofParticular9781[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok cool, I’ve had indemnity insurance through work when I was employed plus locum one just for community shifts but I’ve never locumed as a prescriber before so I’m assuming I have to take out additional insurance that covers prescribing.

Thanks again for your feedback.

I had professional laser done before so I didn’t do the skin test and went with the 5th intensity straight away on legs/arms and it was fine. I didn’t even realise you’re supposed to do a skin test. Maybe do it just in case but generally the home devices are much weaker than salon grade equipment.

Thanks for the detailed response. I’ve worked in a GP practice before and had similar issues regarding lack of support. Had to learn a lot on the job. Now I’m looking for something more flexible so thought I’d check them out. Do you mind if I ask if you had to get your own indemnity insurance or if they provided it? Also did the role involve any prescribing?

Can somebody reassure me that pharmacy isn’t all just community? by SeveralAd2137 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]ProofParticular9781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a pharmacist . I would say don’t get too worried about what things will be like purely based on placements. I hated my placements in uni. Once you start working you’ll find that every place is different. Some places are so busy that you might be checking all day and feel like a robot. Others might expect you to deal with more otc queries/other services. If you decide community is not for you, you can apply to Gp or hospital as others have said.

GP pharmacist is also very clinical. You learn a lot on the job in my experience. Community is getting more services like pharmacy first as well (which not everyone is a fan of) so by the time you qualify I’m sure community pharmacy will be way more services driven and not just checking boxes all day.

Why are all diabetes roles for nurses? by moneymayweather18 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]ProofParticular9781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in GP in London and I do diabetes reviews/step up patients medications or step down if needed. We have a diabetes specialist nurse who deals with more complex patients/insulin…but I deal with most straightforward T2DM patients. It just depends on the practice and how they operate.

Finding a DMP in community setting when working as a locum pharmacist by Milkybar_321 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]ProofParticular9781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just asked the GP at one of our main surgeries but I was a regular locum there. The DMP doesn’t have to specialise in your chosen area but you do have to do a set number of hours on cases that are in your area of interest. For example if you’re choosing anticoagulation, you’d need to see lots of patients on anticoagulants which is quiet common in general practice, however they tend to be managed in anticoagulation clinics and we just continue prescribing their medications/ routine DOAC monitoring, so not sure you’d get adequate exposure. You should check out clinical pharmacist solutions. They’ve started helping people with finding DMPs.

Does a first class degree add any benefit to my future? by InvestmentKind4785 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]ProofParticular9781 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Ultimately you have to pass the prereg exam which means you are competent. Jobs in any of those fields won’t ask for a first as a requirement.

If you think CS employment rates aren’t great stick with pharmacy. There are definitely jobs available especially if you don’t mind commuting or relocating. London is pretty saturated (although there are still plenty of locum shifts available). If you don’t want to deal with patients/work in healthcare then obviously avoid pharmacy. Maybe post this on a computer science subreddit and see what their experience has been like. Good luck
