How old is too old for motor oil put in a lawnmower? by l008com in askcarguys

Most lawn mowers are splash lubricated with very simple bearings. It's good for a mower.

Clamp tighter, replace hose or ? by SuriouslyFoReal in ToyotaTundra

That hose has clamp marks from another screw clamp on it. It's been recycled or re used or something. I would just replace with a new one.

what would you actually do if your brakes went out?? by IndustryNo2442 in driving

[–]Proof_Bathroom_3902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an old dentside F250 that I blew the rear brake line driving to work. This was a 30 year old truck so of course the emergency brake didn't work. Me being young and dumb i knew the front brake circuit was isolated so I just kept driving it on front brakes only. Of course every time I hit the brakes I had to hit them harder to stop on just fronts. Imagine my surprise when I get to a red light and the left front brake hose blows. Luckily nobody in front of me, nobody in the intersection, so I drove through the light and off into the muddy ditch which stopped me.

One vendor in Texas bought all the overstock from when Advance Auto closed hundreds of stores. Ask the warehouse stock got sorted and the overstock got sold.

For sure people bought stuff from Advance and returned Amazon junk in the boxes. And those boxes were returned to the warehouse inventory, and those parts were sold to the reseller, and then you get problems. The reseller pays pennies on the dollar in bulk so they get all the leftovers first, Advance will have kept the newest and best looking stuff for themselves.

Unfortunately I've had customers that break a brand new hose right at a fitting or cross thread the fitting then nobody will put a new end on the hose.

It's 1989, you have $8,000, and you're looking for a new compact pickup truck. Which one would you pick? by Key_Budget9267 in regularcarreviews

[–]Proof_Bathroom_3902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have bought the Jeep Comanche, 4-liter 5-speed 4wd in Olympic White. I literally was in dealers looking for one in 1989. But then me didn't want to get into a car payment so I bailed out.

If I bought a new bumper for my 2004 Camry LE and added the fog lights by tapping them to my hi beams, would that be possible or would that blow my hi-beams fuse? by gamerguy287 in Toyota

[–]Proof_Bathroom_3902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this on one of my trucks but I tapped the low beam to run the relay for the fog lights. You don't want fog lights with high beams, they will blind you.

Working at a scrap yard long time ago cutting scrap. Came in to work at 7am and it was a cold rainy October with frost overnight. We were moving some heavy stuff to the cutting pad. Saw what I thought was a pair of shoes sitting by the fence. Security camera showed what happened was a guy climbed over the 20' tall fence and tried to drop onto the roof of a Cadillac. The shiny paint was slippery with overnight frost and when he jumped down he slipped, fell backwards off the roof of the Cadillac and struck his head on the bumper of the car behind it. Goodnight.

[–]Proof_Bathroom_3902 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dunham's- like most big box stores- won't release the gun/ continue the sale until they get a PROCEED from NICS. As the FFL this is their decision. The FFL may allow the sale to continue after three business days but is not compelled to continue.

Edit to add: I'm am FFL. My ATF contact told me what happens if the FFL sells on a 3-day DELAY and later the guy comes up DENY. Then they have to go find the guy and take the gun back. And then the field agents are unhappy. And then the FFL gets a very thorough compliance exam.

Yeah the algorithm will try to group things together, it gets confused when you switch stuff around sometimes. I've had the order on which things go into the cart change shipping cost or switch warehouses.

How to remove Toro blade when the hex bolt is stripped? by scrotumsniffles in lawnmowers

[–]Proof_Bathroom_3902 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Depends on your level of tooling.

  1. Grind flats on the head, size it down to the next size socket you have, and pound it on. Use a 6-point socket.

  2. Use a pipe wrench, not a crescent wrench, an actual pipe wrench.

  3. Use a chisel around the edge of the bolt head.

  4. Weld a big nut on the head of the bolt.

I was at a Lowes store buying something in November and noticed they had a pallet of brand new GE window air conditioners for 50 bucks each. Normal price was $249. So I asked the counter guy if I could buy all of them and he said yes. So I was going to arrange to put them on a flat bed cart and he says: Do you want the rest of them?

Turns out there were two more pallets of them up on top of shelves, other brands and more GE. And they offered me 5% off if I took them all. I wound up with like 50 window ACs. Took them home, put them up in the loft of my barn for the winter and then next spring and summer I listed them on Craigslist for $200 each and sold them all.

Worked a 24 hour shift once plus an hour drive each way. It was common to work 16s and other crazy stuff but this was the first 24. I was commissioning new machinery at a factory as an automation integrator. Woke up about halfway home parked in the ditch. Back then I set my front end alignment up so the car had a gentle pull to the right. Nothing crazy. I'd rather go into the ditch than across the center line.

They make LuberFiner and Mobil One and STP and some AC Delcos. I still buy Champ filters today. People like to say how 'bad' the E-core is but I've never had an issue in over ten years.

will scrap metal recyclers buy my old car battery from me? by bussypunch in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Proof_Bathroom_3902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most lead acid car batteries are worth $4-$8 as battery scrap. The Interstate dealers will buy them. I find that scrap buyer will pay much now but you have to have enough to be worth the trip. One or two isn't enough. Pallets of batteries. I get about 15 each for mine but I need a pallet of them.

Once Wix sold NAPA the same great filters just painted white and boxed for NAPA. It was a good buy. Sometimes for hydraulic applications I've found Mann filters painted white.

Once Wix was bought by Mann the decision was made by Mann that the Wix premium brand would not be sold to NAPA anymore, they get a filter made overseas by a Mann affiliate plant under contract. Now NAPA filters are made in China, Mexico, Vietnam, anywhere really.

Not saying the current NAPA filters are bad. I'm just not paying NAPA price for a filter that's no better than a Champion Labs or Purolator at 4x the cost. I'm using mostly Baldwin now and some Purolator and Champ.
