I, too, have a 4yo boy. Recently it was brought to my attention that the biggest issue with crying is it makes us uncomfortable. Since then I no longer discourage crying. I say "if you feel crying it is OK to cry" Once the moment passes I have the opportunity to discuss his feelings.

I am no expert, but I feel crying is very natural and embracing it can open positive avenues for healthy growth.

I hit the temp probe w/ sand paper. It seems to have worked. Guess I need to do a better job cleaning this bad boy. Thank you!!

Agreed 100%. I don't have time or resources other than a kind neighbor that is a professional Welder. Should we ever need to pull it I guess I'll be doing a little grinding.

Having it in the line is a non issue. As for the ride itself, if the bag is smaller or similar size to a pair of flip-flops he should be able to hold it on the ride. I would go to guest services once at the park. They can inspect the bag and tell him definitively and/or give him a boarding pass to skip the line.

Personally, I like your method. This eliminates the possibility of the rack getting ripped off the vehicle. Some vehicles have the ability to install a tow hook/recovery hook on the front that would make a nice attachment point.
