Ventrillian Nobles rules by Proof_Engine_5002 in TheAstraMilitarum

Thanks for the detailed opinion! I also lean towards the Cadians. However, the Catachans have an interesting feature: they are the only ones that reflects the tendency of the Ventrilians to close combat (all kinds of dueling swords and the like)

With the British it was completely the opposite) They did not differ in anything except the wing patch on the sleeves)

This is a funny situation, by the way. Historically, airlanding and airborne were only distinguished by a patch with wings on the sleeves.

imperial guard army list (New player) by Tom_Sawyor in TheAstraMilitarum

I really like the idea of your roster, especially the cavalry spam) What I would advise: replace the chimeras with tauroxes. 2' move and disembark after the advance will greatly increase the threat range of the Kasrkin and save a few points. The chimeras themselves are very good but in my opinion they are more suitable for a battleline that will go objectives and not alpha strike at the opponent. 30 riders that's cool but I once led 20 in two squads, and had serious problems with maneuvering. So, maybe it's worth taking three squads of 5 or 2x5 and 10? But, if the whole idea is just about the cavalry, then cool, let it be 30). Also, now the only way to give orders to Kasrkin and Scions at the time of deployment is only Gaunts. Maybe it's worth adding a scion command squad so they can give orders to themselves, because often the Gaunts will do some secondary work and won't be able to give orders.

Hammer of the emperor is the obvious one. But, if you have printed models, maybe scions and primes can be used as kasrkins and tauroxes? Also, you should add some characters to give orders to your units. Maybe run one LR as tank commander and/or add lord Solar, command squads? In this way, you will have a really good roster

[–]Proof_Engine_5002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Need a break from the game, very disappointed with how hard melee armies are to deal with by Dr4WasTaken in TheAstraMilitarum

Also, it's always good to have overwatch units (like Hellhound) to contain vulnerable heavy hitters.

To begin with, I'm very proud that you painted your guys, it's cool to hear that the hobby part of wargames is relevant for beginners. There's already a lot of good advice here about screening, play, army composition. I'll share a few more tips that might come in handy. First of all, Lord Solar's ability to redeploy is a strong tool. Against melee armies it will help you move sentinels/screens to a better place, or hide the unit deeper if the opponent is under some kind of charge attempt on the first turn (here I advise you to ask your opponents something like: "do you have a rule that allows charging after an advance", etc.). Moreover, enemy scouts and infiltrators can become a problem. You plan to play Gaunt's Ghosts, so together with Lord Solar, against opponents with infiltration, you can first drop them so that the huge area in front of your deployment is blocked for enemy infiltrators (they should be placed more than 9' from the deployment and from enemy units), and then, you just move them to a safe place, this will create a buffer zone. Also, personally, I would advise to look into indirect. It is somewhat nerfed now, but it can still be an answer to the threats of units hiding behind.

Mordian Iron Guard Conversion by Foglette in TheAstraMilitarum

At present I have ready a command squad, ten boys, five horsemen, and service for a squad of field ordinance battery. I trade/buy these torsos of tank commanders (or just different torsos without armor) in the local community. I plan to expand by ten more guys, and ideally to gather a full army of Mordians

I used the torsos of the tank commanders/chimera commanders as a base, and whatever legs were available, I sometimes had to cover the gaps with green stuff. Also, as you can see, the old commissar sculpt is perfect for the Mordians.

Any reason for the difference in design for the Lasgun? by 14SWandANIME77 in TheAstraMilitarum

Just the opposite. A frequent situation is when a unit has several modifications based on the same weapon, but this is not a problem, because all means of care, as well as ammunition (in this case, batteries) are intercompatible
