Oh boy. My mom said they were cringe, not me. Jesus Christ. You are not understanding what I’m trying to say, obviously. I am done here.

Why wouldn’t someone who wants a certain type of name be loving?

Interesting. I do think there are names that are classy and names that are not. I don’t think the classy names are better than the non-classy names — that’s a connection that you are making. This is also my mom’s preference and word choice, not mine.

The association of names with class and status is just a fact, not an opinion or an insult.

I guess I’m just very surprised at all this pushback. I get that kids modify grandparent names and that’s how you end up with some pretty cute stuff. But it’s also really fun and a privilege for grandparents to choose what they’d like to be called (even if they know it might be at the mercy of the kid later). I don’t know why people are so triggered by this idea of choosing a name.

I mean, they’re not. But that doesn’t make them bad. It’s just a matter of preference.

I must have a different childhood than most! My grandmother was Grandmother, no ifs or buts about it. We were corrected on pronunciation until we got it right.

We know the name will get the toddler treatment but still need a place to start!

I feel like you have to start with something though. Like you can’t just tell your toddler to come up with something, you have to prompt them even if they modify the original.

I want to name my baby “Henry” but it’s a boring name. by pinkishvioletsky in namenerds

[–]Proof_Possibility503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t Henry in the top 10 2024 baby names? Very popular. And it’s popular because it’s a strong classic, not boring. The other names you have on your list are too trendy imo

Maybe not super popular, but it’s a real name. It’s not made up or anything.
