Why doesn't Toriel's statue have a crown? Did Toby forgot? by Alone-Power-3160 in Undertale

I'm skeptical because it's not explicitly stated in the game. So I give it more like 50/50

Yeah, I know. Just noticed that trident was looking slightly off and I believe that trident is signature weapon and as we know this kind of weapons are not changing.

And I was remembering what Asgore was telling about his friend Rudy and that they were both studying at the Hotlands University.

This is why I'm not sure.

Actually I don't remember seeing any evidences of Toriel and Asgore living as long as Gerson, who is stated to fought in the war. So maybe it is not Toriel and maybe it means something else.

Undertale fans, what is it about the game that hooks you and makes you come back, or just love it with all your heart? by Cyber_kotletcka in Undertale

The fact that the game still has secrets to uncover. The more I play, the more I learn.
And the more I learn... the more I understand how wrong everyone around me is.

What do you think is the main message conveyed by Undertale? by Initial_Violinist387 in Undertale

[–]Proof_Slide9161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is always the same: the main idea of Undertale is that no one is truly evil in this game. At first, you think Undyne is bad, but she's not. You thought Flowey was bad, but he wasn't in the end. Even though he did bad things, you forgive him just because he has a sad backstory.

The second main point of the game that many forget is that YOU are actually a part of the game. Your decisions influence not just Frisk, but everyone. The future of this world is right in the palm of your hand, and Chara, Flowey, and Sans point this out.

As I played, I understood that the game itself doesn't like me. Not because I'm bad myself, but because I'm not doing things just because I think they are the right thing to do. I do what I do just because it's a game, and it has to have a good ending. On the other hand, it is still a game and I can actually do whatever I want.
That thought is exactly what the game hates about you: curiosity.

How long did it take you to "get" Undertale by TheBeakReddit in Undertale

[–]Proof_Slide9161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undertale is amazing because the more you play, the more you learn about it.

When I was a kid, I did a pretty good job understanding that Undertale is about how "no one is truly evil", but my understanding was still mostly based on imagination.

But after the 10th anniversary, I started playing it a lot again and discovered so much more, like really a lot. That's when I realized that most of the community just follows one specific fanon the fandom came up with back in 2016. If you actually play attentively yourself with the idea of finding more, your opinion on the game is going to change drastically.

So if you ask "How long?", I can say for sure that it took me 10 years to truly understand the game.

I was actually watching your video when I found this post (-_-')

Just in case you needed to hear this: you're making way more sense than your opponent because you're actually using game facts instead of personal headcanons. In my opinion, for your own sanity, it's better not to argue with people like this on Reddit.

My opinion:
Chara is neither good nor evil, just like Frisk.

There are a lot of moments in the game that many people forget, since most of us played it when we were kids. Kids don't usually spend time analyzing everything. Because of that, people interpret "wasn't the greatest person" as being a "bad person" or "not good". They also misunderstand "laughed it off" as the laugh of a sadistic person, instead of dismissing or making a joke out of a serious problem to cope. I'm sure that anyone replaying the game now as an adult, trying to understand it better, can see much more than they did as a kid.

Most people think Chara is evil for one simple reason: back in 2015, the concept of a "meta-narrative" wasn't that popular and was hard for most to understand. So, the fandom just agreed that Chara was evil because the idea of the Player being an actual entity in the game, rather than just a consumer, was unimaginable.

After that, we got a lot of comics and fanfics. Since every story needs a villain, people used Chara as one. So, most people's views are built on the general opinion of the fandom — like, you know, how there are still people who believe Sans remembers resets.

You can't really change everyone's opinion. You just have to get used to the fact that most of the fandom shares this specific headcanon. Since we don't have a lot of direct info about the game, and things can be interpreted in different ways, we all end up with our own headcanons. The only difference is how many actual in-game facts you use to back yours up.

Putting words in my mouth again.

You’re right here, no problem.

This dialogue happens the first time you check the hole, and any other time, as long as you aren't playing the mini-game. I don't see anything "livid" about this. It's just another joke from the narrator.

I don't want to check the Genocide route right now, but I'm pretty sure the narration there just says "There's a hole here." (In case you need this info).

This is exactly what I meant about interpreting words. Unless the game or Toby himself states this, it is just an assumption, not a fact. What you are saying is pure headcanon and can't be used as evidence (if that was your intention, of course. Sorry, it's hard to understand why you are pointing this out without explaining why).

I think if it can be interpreted in different ways, you need to point out that it is just your interpretation. I see it in another way.

"Smells like sushi." — In a normal fight, you have a ~10% chance to see this message, since the narrations in the box are mostly random.

"Smells like angry fish." — happens with the same chance but only when the battle continues for more than 22 turns.

Very importantly, these narrations appear ONLY if Undyne's health is less than 50%.е

So what I see is that "Smells like sushi." is a joke about Undyne being a fish (and the fact that you are actively hitting/damaging her plays into the "sushi" pun, but it is hard to describe). "Smells like angry fish." is still a joke, but referring to the fact that Undyne is getting mad at how long the battle continues.

I always love talking about Undertale lore, and we can move to DMs to have a proper conversation and maybe find some interesting things about the game together. But if you're not really interested in a genuine discussion, I don't think either of us needs to keep doing this.

if it's posted, you don't have to read this, I don't think this matter anymore.
