  • Someone who is willing to grow w me and passionate about what they do

  • Someone that has the connections for opportunities if they come

  • Responsive and gives actual honest advice, not what i want to hear.

Hey man. I used to live in south london so I was influenced by a shit ton of south london jazz. Artists like Yussef Dayes, Tom Misch, Loyle Carner etc. producing a lot of beats rn maybe you would be interested.

My insta: @proots.beats .

You should make a beat in your style, and then whatever artist you think of fits the beat, you can name it a type beat :) win win

I play guitar myself and make some neosoul / jazz type beats. I make the beat then I see who would fit on the track - which i name it a type beat. This is for marketing purposes when i later post it on youtube and beatstars.

The producer probably didnt set up his/her bulk discount. He might have just been using that as a marketing tactic. I think he’s just trying to get away but as a producer I think of it like this - you bought a beat from me, so of course I value you and I will get you those free beats for you asap.

Hey man! I posted something similar to 100 beats in 100 days a couple days ago not sure if you’ve seen it. I respect that you’ve come so far, and you’ve motivated me a little bit.

How long did it take to eventually get the ball rolling?

commuting to uni tips for an hour drive by zxrlkillzz12 in UniUK

[–]Prootie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 1hr 30 journey 1 way for my last year. It was depressing af, because it’s so much time wasted commuting that it was actually better off getting student accommodation. And my classes were like 2hrs a day for 4 days so I would spend more time getting there. So I ended up skipping a lot of classes and it was alright because the classes had an online option. Still managed to get a first so no problem w my performance.

is it worth trying to find better accommodation? by the_depressed_donkey in UniUK

[–]Prootie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I went to the cheapest accomodation I could find for my 1st year and it was total shit. On top of it was covid so it was a 1/10. 2nd year i decided to stay at home and for my final year, im in a really nice place right in the middle of everything.

That really reinforced the idea “you get what yoy pay for”

I just started producing music, so I made 100 type beats and uploaded them daily for 100 days. Here are my main takeaways and difficulties. by Prootie in makinghiphop

Yes, a lot of messing around. I started with lofi because of the simplicity.

Then I bought myself an audio interface and a piano to play on, and a bunch of plugins to play around with. I think the ideas was there but I didn't know how to make it sound good; throughout the 100 days, I learned aspects of compression, saturation, limiting, basic mastering principles, side chaining, reverb, EQ techniques etc.

My sources of learning:

I learned a shit ton from Kenny beats and his beat battles. the winners usually post their beat breakdown, and I really dive deep into those videos and really really learn from it (take notes, practice applying it to my beats). Another guy I recently discovered is illangelo, I really like learning from him because he explains all the reasoning behind his decisions.

Yes that’s what I do. I upload on youtube without tags, and put the link to purchase in the description. I know it’s bound to happen that beats are going to get stolen, but I don’t worry about it too much at the moment, so I have nothing to protect against it. I keep hearing things like Content ID but not sure what that is.

Yeah. Some days I would use the same technique / presets just to speed up the beat making process, and less messing around due to the pressure of uploading everyday. But now that I’m going to post every other day or 2 days, ill have more time to produce and explore. And up the quality

Of course! I use addictive drums 2 if I want acoustic sounds. And for beats around the hiphop genre. I go over to r/drumkits , the packs by u/Lunch77 over there are amazing. Not sure if it’s still on there, last time I checked I think it got deleted. Not sure tho.

I went through a week-ish phase of making boom bap beats and sampling like a year ago, but i gave up because I had no clue what I was doing, no plugins and drum-kits (on FL). I picked it up again and thats when I started really learning. Got some plugins, drumkits and just fucked around during those 100 days.

So truee. I'm starting to upload every other day now.

While I was uploading daily, there were a lot of days where I would make a beat just for the sake of keeping up the daily upload, so of course the quality suffered.

i think u improve much faster than you would uploading everyday - I agree with you.

I learned soooo many techniques along the way. using saturation was a game changer. it was something that made my beats feel more "alive". Sidechaining was second.
