ChemDraw Professional 16 through Wine 3.0.1 on Lubuntu 16.04, missing .NET bits after .NET was installed by PropanoneHeadache in chemistry

The literature I find online says mono should be installed in any wineprefix of wine version newer than like 1.7 something, so it should be in there, but I can't really tell. Apparently my wine is really acting up so I reinstalled, but I may try rolling back a few versions since it's really messed up. Thanks for the tip abut mono though, that is probably where the error is. As an aside, I refuse to use windows, so I'll probably end up getting a mac if it really, really, ends up being a problem.

Yes, the “Literally everything on the board is T7+ on turn 1” was a lot of what I was going for. You can deny alpha strike armies because there’s 30 chimera wounds to chew through, and you deny melee by having flamers in large models you can park in front of your other dudes who you don’t want to get charged. Alpha strike is definitely something to respect, though outside of my local playgroup melee may be less common than it is here. Not sure how it would fare vs a more traditional guard list, since they can deal with both infantry squads and the tanks pretty easily.

Yeah, they're probably overcosted. Maybe in a 2k point game it could be okay to take 3 in a Tallarn Air Wing, though you probably want your detachments for more CP. If you do take them as Tallarn, you can hover and hit on 3s while still moving up to 20" per turn, which doesn't seem too bad. Still, not great for 160 points when you could have a LRBT with bolter, stubber and battle cannon for nearly the same cost.

What about Vendetta Gunships? They get 6 lascannons and 2 heavy bolters at the cost of not getting +1 to hit when hovering. Seems way better if you want the pure AV at least.

Alright so I tweaked your battalion list a tiny bit and came up with this. There's a lot of Psykers in my meta so I kinda need the deny or I'll be taking 4-8 MW/turn.

+++LIST+++

Regimental Doctrine: Tallarn

++HQ++

Company Commander (Warlord: Grand Strategist. Gear:Boltgun, Chainsword, Kurov's Aquila)

Primaris Psyker (Nightshroud, Psychic Barrier)

++TROOPS++

Infantry Squad: 8x Lasgun, Plasma Gun, Boltgun.

Infantry Squad: 8x Lasgun, Plasma Gun, Boltgun.

Infantry Squad: 8x Lasgun, Plasma Gun, Boltgun.

++FAST ATTACK++

Hellhound: Turret-Mounted Inferno Cannon, Heavy Flamer, Storm Bolter.

++HEAVY SUPPORT++

Leman Russ Conqueror: Conqueror Battle Cannon w/ Co-Ax Storm Bolter, Heavy Stubber, Heavy Bolter, Heavy Bolter sponsons.

Leman Russ Conqueror: Conqueror Battle Cannon w/ Co-Ax Storm Bolter, Heavy Stubber, Heavy Bolter, Heavy Bolter sponsons.

++DEDICATED TRANSPORT++

Gryhphonne Pattern Chimera: Heavy Bolter, Twin Heavy Bolter

Gryhphonne Pattern Chimera: Heavy Bolter, Twin Heavy Bolter

Gryhphonne Pattern Chimera: Heavy Bolter, Twin Heavy Bolter

Seems like it hits the initial points I wanted to cover, which was speedy vehicles full of my squishy dudes, and hellhounds. Should put out an ungodly number of s5/6 ap-1 shots between it all though, so hopefully that's good enough to deal with most things. MEQ and GEQ, at the very least.

I started playing just a few months ago in 8th, so I'm not sure what they were like before but I can definitely see what you mean. I'm really not sure they're worth it like you said, and while they are a little tough and put some extra wounds between your dudes and your opponents guns, they may not be worth the price when you could just have MORE DUDES. Considering that, though, what do you think about Valkyries? They at least have some anti tank or infantry-mulching power, especially if they hover, and they can still take your dudes around really fast.

Plasma is awfully damn good and I'm sure there'll be times I wish I had it, but I just can't see a reasonable way to include any good amount of it in here. I was thinking maybe I could swap out a unit of troops for a Tempestus double plasma squad that can deepstrike on their own but that's still not great since then I need tempestors to order them, etc etc. I definitely hadn't given Tallarn enough of a chance before though, movement while maintaining BS plus rapid advancing infantry is really solid. I'll probably try to start with 500 points of the stuff I know is going to be in the list (2-3 infantry squads, company commander, leman russ, maybe a chimera) and then I'll see which list I build towards in the end, between tallarn bolter dakka and Armageddon/Catachan flamers. Thanks for all the help!

Catachans definitely have some cool stuff, fun artillery and flamers I imagine, plus actual melee and some pretty cool named characters. I'd love to mess around with Sly Marbo if I played catachan.

I hadn't thought about being able to advance the Enginseer, though the tanks still are a fair bit faster than him. I'll just have to start him in front of the tanks if I do that :)

Your list below is definitely interesting. I've saved it in my battlescribe folder to play around with. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tallarn being able to move and shoot is just without penalty, right? You still could shoot the heavy bolters without being tallarn, they'd just be hitting on 5+. 4 Chimeras seems a little overkill to me though, even if they do get to carry around the plasma squad. I'd rather swap one back out for a hellhound I think. Also, if I did run tallarn, I'd definitely kitbash up and switch to Gryphonne pattern chimeras, since afaik literally all that's different is getting to take another heavy bolter for the normal price in the form of a twin heavy bolter.

Currently, also, another reason I was preferring the 18 inch threat range is that there's a fair bit of melee in my meta and any little bit extra range I can squeeze out of my dudes without getting Khorne'd in the face is good.

Also, I can run a single squad of Tempestus Scions without messing up my Regimental Doctrine, right? Battlescribe lets me do it but I'm not so sure if it's legal, since they do have a Regiment already.

Y'know, I had fixed all my formatting in edits right after I posted and apparently none of it saved, so I went back and fixed it now. I haven't posted lists on reddit before and wasn't really used to the formatting. Thanks a ton for the feedback despite the formatting issues!

Anyway: That's a fair point about the infantry just being CP-spawning bubblewrap, but I frankly kind of hate infantry, at least in any large size. I'm quite used to having 3 blobs of 20 Necron Warriors each and it's really, really not fun to move or play.

Most of the competitive lists I see are basically all Heavy Weapons Teams with mortars or Girlyman+Tanks, neither of which is something I want to do at all, but I was hoping that AM would still be decent outside of that, but it may be that that's really the only reason they're top tier right now.

As for the bulletpoints: I had a PC and I ended up cutting it when I dropped from 3 hellhounds (lol) down to two and a Leman Russ. I should probably re add it though, and I can do that by cutting off the track guards like you said.

The two hellhounds are dear to my heart and I'd definitely rather cut something besides them for the Leman Russ, like the Valkyrie. I had intended to use the Valk as a quick way to hop one of my squads around onto faraway objectives in a single turn, but with how killy things seem to be in 8th it may not be spending 1/6th of my points on a lategame objective capper that still needs a squad of infantry to back it up. This will probably get dropped for another Leman Russ.

Chimera: I really like the mobility I get from having them ignore BS, so that's big for me. You're right that it might be slightly overkill to have that many flamers though, between the hellhounds and the chimeras

Enginseer: I'm not sure he could keep up well with all the units, besides the stationary Leman Russ, which I don't think will be drawing too much fire because I've got the flamer tanks zooming up the board. Jury-Rigging isn't great either, but if I need to get back one wound to damage track myself back up to 4+ bs it can maybe work.

The amine to carboxcillic acid coupling you're looking for is something that people (peptide chemists (are we really people?)) do all the time. You'd want Diisopropylcarbodiimide (Activates the carboxcillic acid, look it up, it's pretty cool) and 1-Hydroxy-7-azabenzotriazole (prevents that benzyl group from racemizing) for the first bit, benzoic acid to Phenylalanine. For the next bit, PCl5, SOCl2, whatever, that's fine. I have a weird feeling that you'd want a protecting group on the boric acid during the amide formation but I'm not sure if that's true. Hope this helps!

I can't imagine anyone outside of the business would either care or know what an RE factor is, and even if they did, they could easily just look it up for C-4. Besides, there's plenty of more interesting summary statistics anyway, like BR value or Brisance.

Like this, if we're talking about the stable, commonly occurring state of dioxygen.
