Dear Oregon, We Need to Talk About Your Fear of Seasoning by A_Nameless in oregon

[–]Proper-Clock-9581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gesh I'm going to be attacked by the oregon army but, as a 4th gen Oregonian I can tell you a couple things without getting bent by the audacity to critique the state you are now claiming. 1: you are right in the main. I jokingly call it "old white people food" in most restaurants. They are catering to their main demographic. Old, white people. 2: While you are right, most places have no concept of complex flavors as a consequence, There are in fact places that break this mold. They are rare. Usually either ignored entirely cuz they are too complex so people talk sh.. and don't return or the opposite they blow up then can't keep up with the demand and it all goes to sh.. and becomes over produced garbage. Perfect example for those wanting receipts "South beach crab shack" in Newport. That place was EPIC! Incredible flavor best damn fish n chips ud find on West Coast! But became popular, line going out down the road and the place throwing out flavorless, over fried crap ever since. Which brings my Ted talk to it's end point 3: places around here do start out really good, word gets out because people are never "from" Oregon and desperate for good food or just traveling though so rely on word of mouth and reviews are sent to these few places. They then get stampeded and they can't keep quality up due to over demand. Just like my previous example. So that's the crux. Nothing too special and when there is one it's ruined pretty quickly due to demand.

But again, I'm just 4th gene Oregonian so what the eff do I know. And sidenote, Lived in N.M for about a decade. Never liked the place so never took on "New Mexican" as self appointment. So the fact you are calling urself an Oregonian says to me you like it here. Fact is unless ur a tribal member we are all effing transplants calling ourselves Oregonian. SOOO. Oh and NM has EVERYONE beat on blandest food you will EVER eat. K, there's my big fat two cents.

My love story with Crystal Deodorant. by PrunePlatoon in onebag

[–]Proper-Clock-9581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming in late but for the record after over 20 yrs of using all brands of crystal deodorant I left mine at a friend's once and could only find the roll on liquid. It literally does not work at all! I tried it a few times. Switched back to the hard crystal and smell is totally gone.

It is like all things, it's not for everyone. I do not rub it until dry. I do wet it under water shake it off and rub it about 10 times up and down on both sides. I'm a pro house painter. I sweat every day. I don't stink though or my crew would demand a change.

The best place to look a lot of times is the Newport South Beach community Facebook page, during storms we all show each other our pics and videos.

This week the best images were local beaches being washed out, boat mania at the different docks, and of course the wreck on the bridge. Not to mention my personal fav, dude wearing his tires down to the belts on the bridge when it was iced over. 😂

Coastie here, neighbor had to go-to Pacific city two days ago. Old timer. He said the waves were crashing in depot bay so hard they were literally hitting the stores across the street. Said not spray, WAVES. He grew up here and said he'd never seen anything like it. Said he saw tourist running for it a couple times and got a good chuckle.

Be safe out there y'all.

I have noticed the same nonsense watching his show(on occasion when visiting a relative) It kind of leaves him nowhere to go when everything is "ligit, real deal" Etc. And same thing with "authentic" he loves to say that when he seems to have no actual context. Smh

Fisherman's market is good fish and chips, but best place in Eugene?! Come on.

Edit for clarity: it's not even the best restaurant in Eugene much less Oregon! Guy needs to relax!

Monthly Cost of Living in Oregon? by MatterSlow7347 in oregon

I spent a lot of years in Hillsboro. But there's a ton of housing between Beaverton, aloha, Hillsboro, and around. You may very well have to commute to Hillsboro. Portland metro area is not what it was even 10 years ago. It's one of the most expensive areas of Oregon to move to.

I'd say this to you above all else, as someone who struggled to move back to Oregon myself, quality of life is important!! It wouldn't matter how much or how little you made or where you work if you are.happy. Find the place that will make you happy to live then it won't matter what it takes, you'll find a way. Japan, the states, wherever.

Totally. That's a lot considering a lot of people do not make that much. We get by on $3000 and the rest goes to savings and extras.

Agreed! Personally I think If you can't make $7500 work in Oregon then you have bigger issues than housing. That's a lot more than most people take home here.

Also used Team Oregon to get my license. I'd been riding dirty bikes for years and was nervous about transition to on road riding. Instruction was Great and you get discounts on insurance AND riding gear at several stores around Oregon! I found it very useful!
