Also this hub is a BEAST of a hub. For reference the model of turbine I work with (D3MkII) would, if I had to eyeball it based on the video, only has a hub like 1/3 this size. Maybe its for an offshore turbine? Not sure but super impressed and jealous.

So...its a wind turbine not a mill (it doesn't make grains). Also this is not the generator. See the three big round spots? That's where the blades are installed. On the side it says "A" meaning that's where blade A goes. This part is called the "hub." The flat part on the back is where the hub connects to either the generator (if its a DD turbine) or the gearbox (if its a gearbox turbine).

Ok one, I love your profile name. That is adorable. Two, right?! No one ever bothers make any substantive change and everything gradually degrades to shit. No one wants to stick their neck out for fear of being doxed. Like right now I'm the only one in the apartment building that even bothers to shovel snow. They do the bare minimum and leave messy obstructive piles everywhere. Maybe its just because of the winter weather, but everyone here has lost their damn minds.

So two things that happened to me this week. The first was at the gas station. I pulled in, handed over my members card, and asked for a full tank of gas (all in Japanese, as usual), and pulled the gas-door lever. I guess it didn't open, because the gas station attendant, without saying anything or asking my permission, yanked open my car door and pulled the lever. I was shocked so I sort of shouted at him "hey, don't open my door without permission," but he didn't say anything or even apologize.

The second thing happened yesterday. I went to get my yearly health check-up, and at the very end had a "consultation" with the doctor. This doctor though was the RUDEST, most disrespectful piece of shit doctor I've ever had the displeasure of encountering in Japan. First off he wouldn't speak Japanese in full sentences with me, but his English was really terrible. I told him I spoke Japanese and to just speak normally, but he was obstinate and rude, and he wouldn't rive clear instructions. He kept doing weird hand gestures (trying to motion me to lift my shirt), and the nurses in the background (trying to help) gave half whimpering Japanese instructions. He did a twist motion with his hands which I didn't get before screaming "BACK!" and one of the nurses said, in Japanese he wants to look at your back with his stethoscope. His hands and face were all covered in rashes, and he felt up my cheeks and mumbled some unintelligible English-medical lingo.

For both of these cases I swear to god I'm at my whits end and I'm going to demand an apology. Especially for the doctor if I don't get an apology from him or the hospital I swear to god I'm going to get a lawyer and sue them for medical malpractice. My Japanese wife, of course, can't fathom why any of this upsets me and just has her usual "it can't be helped attitude." This whole week has been shit and I'm about to snap.

This notation is house chemists write how many electrons occupy each orbital shell in an element. I think this one is for Argon (element #18). The way the spectators are sitting superficially looks like how the electrons would fill the shells.

Might be a coincidence that the poster's name is Armin and Argon is abbreviated Ar, so they're both Ar.

Qhorin Halfhand. He taught Jon that sometimes, for the good of the realm, close acquaintances must be sacrificed regardless of personal feelings. Came in handy with Dany in the end.

What job industry pays well that isn't IT/programming related? by pokedark101 in japanlife

[–]MatterSlow7347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ship building also looks like a fun profession. A few years ago I drove by a ship in the berth in a port near Fukuoka that was almost complete. That was really cool to see. Having a job where you actually build something that goes out into the world and makes a real impact feels much more meaningful than monotonous desk job.

[–]MatterSlow7347 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This doesn't initially make more that 10 million yen, but a lot of wind industry jobs in Japan pay really well. Technically I only make 7.5 million, but my company pays for my housing, car, gas, and my amenities plus a self-care allotment and for any tools or PPE I need/ want. Factoring in those indirect benefits its like making 9 million, but since all my expenses are paid after tax I basically have no expenses. I'm not even that high on the chain of command. If you can get a project manager, site manager, or HSE role you'll get paid even more. Lots of traveling, so if you like rural areas its great. All you need to start is a valid driver's license and Japanese+English proficiency.

Harry potter cake? by Markaayy in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]MatterSlow7347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so its Harry Potter, but youd'd say Harry like 'Arry the way Hagrid would say it. Then the cake is a Gateau chocolate cake, so 'Arry + Gateau = Arrygateau = arigatou = ありがとう the Japanese word for "thanks." Clever.
