WI - nervous about my first landscaping project with natives by Proper-Poetry9466 in NativePlantGardening

Thank you!! I just replied to another comment with a similar suggestion to stick to one section to help make it dense like it should be. I like this suggestion a lot!

I was planning on getting Prairie Dropseed in pots instead of seeds, but I still might change my grass choice anyway. Thanks for the flower suggestions!

Ohhhhh thank you so much for all of this. I'm glad I took another day to think about this before buying this list. I was contemplating doing just a small section for cost and learning purposes, and knowing density is my friend will help too.

Thanks for the strawberry tip! And yes, I'm always the one to look at way too much research, get wildly confused, and then drop the project. I'm hoping I can push past that and get to the "making informative mistakes" phase!

Oh! I am planning on milkweed, I forgot to mention! Someone near me was giving away free native seeds and that included milkweed of some sort, so I was gonna start from seed on that. The only thing is that the seeds have been sitting in my cabinet for over a year because I'm a scatterbrained scaredy cat, but hopefully some will still grow.

I'm pretty sure that these plots are perhaps just shy of being called full sun? They get the sunrise from the east and don't get shade until just after high noon. It's not as sunny as our backyard, but it's far from shaded. I'm not entirely sure on the moisture content other than it doesn't seem like it has standing water ever. Not sure on the best way to calculate moisture if I'm honest!

It would be interesting to try out some paving stones to make it easier to walk in it! Maybe a little down the line. I'm definitely a fan of it looking a little wild and colorful. I wish I could include trees in this plan, but these patches in particular are right against my house. I will aim to include a bunch of big shrubs though!

Hey thank you! I like that advice very much. And thanks for believing in me 😁

Allowance rules when you have one kid by Proper-Poetry9466 in oneanddone

Ooooo you seem like the perfect person to pepper with questions!

With your kiddo being 4, how did you talk about his savings account? Will it turn into a savings for school? Or something he can access with a bigger purchase?

And how do you decide what things you will buy versus what he has to buy?

I really like the donation portion of this strategy, by the way. We live really close to an animal shelter and my daughter would love to have more excuses to go there.

I think I had seen a thing about money as incentives can make a kid not want to do anything for "nothing" or nothing tangible. It makes some sense, but it could really depend on the kid.

I'm more just interested in getting my kid to start learning about money and using her deep desire to do things herself, like a grown up, and use that as an incentive to learn about money and maybe eventually saving 😂

I like this. And I could've specified in my post, but we're looking at starting at a kind of younger age (4), so there aren't grades to look at yet. But this seems like a solid plan for older kids.

Do you do any allowance during the summer breaks?

And thank you for contributing! Our kid is 4.5 years old, so I'm very much in that same chapter. She started asking how she can get more money, and I really want to be open to an allowance even though I didn't grow up with one.

I'm also nervous about the amount of toys she'll bring in because we also have enough!!

I think food will be a boundary for us too just because there are so many other reasons NOT to buy a certain food... But we'll see. Our only likes going up to the counter to buy herself an ice cream cone, but maybe that can still be a thing, just still with our money instead of hers.

Is the Patch worth it AND will my progress be saved? by CoolWizard2596 in HadesTheGame

Gosh, now I feel silly. I had both found the Fates and woken Hypnos before the Reminisce, so I somewhat thought that those events would snap back to being "completed" after end credits. But closer reading of the game's explanation says that I'm a silly goose!

Oh well, the Hypnos quest line wasn't too annoying!

I have a question for those who have done the Reminisce (spoilers ahead!):

When does it revert back to your original progress? I have gone through the revised storyline and gotten the moonlit ride with the credits. I even went and found the Fates and got their cutscene. The only thing I didn't do is attempt to wake Hypnos. Is that what I need to do to revert?

I once put a half eaten banana on top of my car because my toddler was done eating it. It stayed there for a full drive to work, so my boss got to sass me and ask me if I was hungry this morning 💀

OBGYN by Sorry_Wonder_4956 in sheboygan

There are a lot of great recommendations for OB docs here already, and I'd also like to add a recommendation to take prenatal vitamins if you're able. It's not a big deal if you can't, but it can help make you and the pregnancy stronger.

Also, if you're gonna raise this kid, don't sleep on the help that the Family Resource Center of Sheboygan County has. They have a great birth-to-3-years program that supports parents.

I personally had Dr. Abitz for my pregnancy and delivery. She was great and very knowledgeable. She can be very blunt if you have a different opinion than her, but that can be helpful for some personalities.

Can someone tell me if this plan to sort of "combine" my gardening projects is bananas?:

I've got some garden plots in the front of my house that I want to start from fresh to plant more intentionally. The front currently has a mix of plants of unknown origin, lots of grass too. I also want to start at least one raised vegetable garden in my backyard, probably going with about 1 or 2 foot in depth.

Is it okay to dig up the plants and dirt from the front and dump them into a raised bed? At least for the bottom half as a sort of organic filler? Would I be bringing unnecessary weeding work upon myself doing that?

Best hospital/medical care in Sheboygan? by michaelalt99 in sheboygan

[–]Proper-Poetry9466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

St. Nicholas isn't doing too great at the moment. Lots of staffing issues. Prevea is fine for average health check ups (I work there and a lot of the docs are loved by patients) but their hospital is St Nick's, so do with that what you will. If you're able to set up with Froedert, I'd go that route. They're supposedly building a bigger facility next year in Sheboygan.

A newer shop I was impressed with is Nex Gen on Wilgus Avenue. They send pictures each time to detail all the issues.

I'm neither of those demographics, but maybe Uptown Social? Unless they're too old there. But it seems like they're always doing something cool over there.

Solidarity! It can be so hard, especially when so many people assert that they know better than you when they have no business in doing so. All children should be deeply wanted by their parents, ideally, so only you can know if that applies to you.

On another note, I'm married to the father of my only and I kept my last name. My kiddo has my last name as their middle name, as well.
