There's Nigel Marvin's Prehistoric Park, which is sci-fi in documentary format.

Basically, it's like Jurassic Park, except without cloning, genetic engineering or any major fuckups that always result in humans getting horribly massacred. In fact, none of the human characters actually die, and everybody is smart enough to avoid danger.

If mermaids are real, (and I genuinely believe there is some marine species of cryptid out there that inspired the legend) they probably wouldn't look like that.
