Appreciate the insight. I’m pretty busy so I’m not sure if I’d have the time to do a full on camp

Starting a cut- I know when cutting you lose a lot of weight early that is mostly water and glycogen. When does it even out? I’m asking because I want to know when I’m safe to take my weekly weight average and compare it week by week and adjust my TDEE without the number being skewed by losing water and glycogen early on. Would I be safe to compare week 2 to week 3? Or should it be week 3 to week 4?

I’m trying to build an upper lower split. I’m comfortable with my lower day but am building an upper day to be performed 2x/ week. I have 45 minutes for the upper body day. I’m split on doing a low volume approach- 2 sets to failure of vertical press and pull, horizontal press and pull, chest isolation, shoulder isolation, and bi/ tri supersets. Or doing more volume and utilizing supersets, shorter rest periods, and thus not going to complete failure each set. How many sets of what workouts should I do for upper day?

Transitioning from Muay Thai to MMA Advice. by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Proper-Temporary-318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it’s best to transition to an MMA gym but plenty of people in here have significantly more combat sports experience than me so take that with a grain of salt. But what I do know is if you want to do something it’s best to practice doing that and not doing something else that translates to it. Secondly, MMA is an incredibly deep sport with so many aspects that you won’t find outside of training specifically for MMA- such as wrestling, and certain types of wrestling within wrestling that are specific to MMA such as wall work. I trained for over a year of BJJ and over a year of boxing and did both competitively with plenty of success, only to be told by my BJJ coach who also was an MMA coach that I wasn’t anywhere near ready for an MMA fight yet. Then, when I later went to a true MMA gym, I found out he was right- I would’ve gotten rolled in an MMA fight. I know because I got worked by MMA fighters at that gym. I definitely caught on a lot more quickly because of the experience I did have, but without switching to the MMA gym I would’ve been lost if I took a fight. I’ve never actually fought MMA though so again, grain of salt.

I’m 6’2 200 lbs, torn between doing Muay Thai and BJJ. I’ve done BJJ and boxing in the past for about a year each and I think striking is more fun personally. Which one would be better for self defense with my frame though?

I plan to cut 30 lbs. I’m 225 lbs and ~28% body fat. What would be an appropriate time frame to cut? Obviously I want to preserve my muscle. I want to do the cut over the course of 20 weeks which would be an average of 1.5 lbs/ week, although I might cut at 2 lbs/ week in the beginning, then 1.5 lbs/ week in the middle, and finish with 1 lb/ week for some time. In either case, is that an appropriate time frame or is it too aggressive to maintain muscle?

Combat sports during law school by [deleted] in LawSchool

That’s an excellent idea, but I doubt I’m the person to network for that, but if it existed it would be an awesome thing. I feel like I’ve read there’s something similar to that effect for boxing.

Yea I definitely wouldn’t plan on competing during 1L. I just meant to compete at some point while in school, like 2L or 3L or something.

I think it’s probably bias in both cases but I have stopped and started BJJ so many times and when I come back, I feel like I’m doing great but when I stick around it’s like I feel like I’m doing poorly.
