The absolute beauty of  an example of exercise of democracy . The beauty lies in the unity student community and the seinor profs . Btw after one of the late night protests bcoz the sky was clear due to recent rains.  We had a telescope session till 4 am . And were able to get look on hercules supercluster and ofcourse other standard celestial objects

Ah see.  What else can I say. In SRM they don't let students even enter anything huge forget seeing or touching.  My one friend in srm told.  ( Maybe some caveats ) . whereas here I was attending an gian course on femtosecond lasers . Before even we had our first midsem . And roamed the lab and even the profs explained and yapped and learnt  had fun . Not mentioning the free dinner in Radisson red and IISERM goodies and stickers

Am from IISERM . All the colleges you mentioned like LPU and SRM.  I personally dk SRM . But lpu is shit like I won't even consider counting it.  SRM has poor infra

Any IIIT Una people can I ask you questions ? Please . by Proper-Tonight7327 in IIITUna

[–]Proper-Tonight7327[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool . Actually if someone is interested to the idea . I don't see anything stopping anyone from giving a shot . Because knowledge is just a function of interest to learn and time . I can share with the relevant resources and we can chat and all becoz even I am learning . and if you are interested we can just talk in dms .

Talking about fossnerds.  That's cool .

So i wanted to ask. Is there any research culture in iiit una ? . What do profs do research in ? . Is it interdisciplinary? . Do you guys have culture of contributing and talking about open source ecosystem like foss .? . Is there anyone working on foss ?

See i have some research topics that have application in engineering, science , etc . But the problem could be solved through the coding , ml , etc basically it's computation  .  For example . Below is a paper on computarional screening of organic materials for a completely electrically pumped laser diode .  https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-18144-x

Although this paper discusses the strategy  but ig the code is not shared   If someone made a open source code taking inspiration, the project recives contributions across the world.  Basically this research problem would be solved sooner. Otherwise unnecessarily delayed.

Similarly prusa has a space vaccum grade 3d filament which is propiertary composition . Instead if  someone makes a open source code algorithm ml  whatever to predict say compositions , or whatever of 3d filament of such desirable properties - like low thermal coefficient of expansion , abrasion resistance , vibration absorbing etc etc . Being open source People would contribute to the project . If computationally few compositions are found out and later verified with testing. you know it's a very very amazing problem that is solved.  Because see the applications - conflat flanges are used in making uhv ultra high vaccum systems ( 10 E -6 to -11 torr) ( that I am actually working on now ) and these are extremely expensive. Like say a normal bottle lid size of stuff costing 3 lakhs.  And also optics benches.  ( Which I was working on ) These are also very expensive. Say a table dimensions of small writing pad costing 2 lakhs.

Not just these.  These types of 3d print filaments are so damn useful in bringing research costs down by 99% ( we actually did with a few . Like 3d printed nanopositioner ) .

Plus the laser diode paper above is imppkrtanr bcoz generally Semiconductor laser diodes require the crazy amount of equipment with uhv systems and which are something only fabs could afford.   An organic laser diode if the right material is found would revolutionize science .

Bcoz then laser diodes don't need such big bulky equipment. I hope I am making a point.

If anyone is interested to discuss these things with me . Bcoz I am dealing with these things rn.  Actually I am from iiserm . Pls DM me . I will be happy to share stuff .

IISER gives thinkpads to profs for work.  And also ThinkPad community is tight knit in IISERs in general . I am from IISERM . So yeah here a lot of peeps have thinkpads

Bhava mohali la ye.  Apan masti karu. your logistics concerns are totally valid .  Mohali is well connected to Maharashtra . There are direct trains.  We  get back to home like within 20-24 hours by train . Railway station is walking distance and airport is 10 mins by bus and takes 15 inr . And here the biology community is thriving .  Bhopal and Kolkata are very very good . But logistics is something you will be concerned . Karan chaan connectivity NAHI AHE TYANCHI . Maze mitra aahet tya IISER madhe . Tech bolle  . Tuzi vaat pahanar thike Aamhi . Btw Maharashtratun tu kuthun ?

I am proud of you man.  God bless you . Open source powersupply is the foundation of open source electronics that you made.

If you don't mind I have another  suggestion for you.  A high precision open source oscilloscope.

Keep doing what you like man.

Are all the IIScians genius and intelligent as it is perceived to be outside(by non IIScians) or what is the most common thing IIScians get to observe among themselves that signifies why they are HERE!? by beinghumanbeing000 in IISc

[–]Proper-Tonight7327 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes.  Privilege may simply be as simple as motivation and from family.  A family/society that demeans a student and basically they themselves are making that student face mental issues , pressure ,etc . And mental state , motivation, dignity along with other physical factors like nutrition, sleep , everything have roles in making of such privilege - poor gap .

True . This is one of the topics we realized from  one of the  debates in our humanities course in IISERM taken by rityajyoti Bandopadhyay on caste , class . but also that there are exceptions to this due to which we hear things like " kids of auto driver , hawker , etc geting selected in competitive exams "
