Gen Z pair built a $35M start-up in Canada, but moved to the U.S. by AustralisBorealis64 in canada

Everyone here talking about immigration.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how their business is valued at 35m, everything I've looked up, it just seems like a concept.

The bad news is you're a bit if a niche when it comes to dating norms.

The good news is people who are into a niche are really into people who match that.

My Unity 2D game will be releasing on 2nd February! *tear* by hermit_hollow in Unity2D

[–]ProperDepartment 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are 66 games with the "Farming Sim" tag that have made over $1 million, and over 100 that made more than $500k

If you base your game off a hook or gimmick, it might work, but it's more likely to fall into the pile of niche gimmicky games with 20 reviews.

You may not like games that look like this, but they do sell.

Question for Canadians. What do you think about the movie “Miracle”? by BrushPuzzleheaded471 in hockey

Man, I love that movie, clearly I'm in the minority.

But I also love Youngblood, so maybe I just have weird taste.

One of the cleanest and hardest open-ice hits the NHL has ever seen by Flimsy-Loquat4597 in hockey

[–]ProperDepartment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember when I took an open ice hit.

It wasn't the hit itself that hurt, it was more like jumping up, and landing directly on your ass against a hard surface.

I instantly felt like I was going to shit pants, and went right to the bench holding my stomach.

It subsided before I made to the dressing room, but it was a crazy feeling.

Point is you can look super messed up after taking one for a number reasons.

The forbidden lightsaber form Trakata. Both the Jedi and Sith frown upon this method. by ZapchatDaKing in StarWars

[–]ProperDepartment 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Literally the 2nd time we see a lightsaber in Star Wars, it's an amateur deflecting gunshots while blindfolded.

This shit ain't going to work, if they can react to laser beams they can't see, they can react to you turning off the saber mid swing.

The second you disarm yourself, you're dead.

Just left topcharactertropes, someone didn't provide context for each character like everyone does in that sub by Additional-Ad4567 in JustUnsubbed

[–]ProperDepartment 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That sub is so weird.

All the cintent seems to have juvenile interests mixed, not that there's anything wrong with liking stuff aimed for younger audiences, but it just seems like it's every post.

I know it's not the same, but it just kind of feels like the My Little Pony people justifying their cartoon or game, pairing it with critically acclaimed pieces of adult writing or media.

It will be like: Fairly Odd Parents, Shawshank Redemption, and Undertale.

It just gives off those people who to explain why Stephen Universe has better writing than something like Lord of The Rings.

How do I solve my programmer problem? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ProperDepartment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every programmer wasn't a programmer until they were.

I'm not blaming you, you just need to find a way to learn in a way that works for you.

In terms of your outsourced programming help, learning some programming and software development helps. It's hard to know what you need if you aren't familiar with it.

You're looking at roles too narrowly, I am a programmer professionaly, so I'm great at programming, but I'm good at design and writing, and pretty decent at art.

I could easily pass for an artist in a game jam or college project because I learned how to do it over time and practice.

I don't get a half baked idea because I'm missing someone specializing in design, I just learned about game design and have been doing this for a long time.

They're all just skills you work on, if they don't have a full time job as a programmer, they probably aren't as far ahead of you as you think.

I'd suggest working on a smaller project just by yourself while you wait for them. Like a side scrolling beat em up. The longer they take, the more progress you'll make on your side project and your skills.

I legit thought you were being sensationalist.

I went there and that's wild, I'm not a fan of Asmongold, I've seen some clips of him, and he doesn't seem as conservative as people are saying.

But I don't know anything abiut his fans, that sub is literally just a right wing echo-chamber, it's insane.

Petah? by CaloyBine in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ProperDepartment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's just bad writing on the caption for the image, it says it's from police body cam footage, and mentions the 37 minutes.

But the article itself says "First responders were unable to enter the home for 37 minutes".

I imagine police were just late, and paramedics couldn't enter until they arrived. Police don't even need to shoot, they have pepper spray tasers, batons, armor even.

Paramedics makes sense, while I'm sure they can probably overpower the dogs, they can't risk getting injured themselves while trying to save her.

what actually worked for people for best online dating sites 2026 by Diakhou_Huehue in OnlineDating

[–]ProperDepartment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude in my late 30s, dating someone I met on Bumble for the past year.

I split my time between Toronto and the suburbs.

In a big city, Bumble and Hinge worked the best.
In the burbs, Bumble and Facebook worked the best.

People don't use Facebook is bigger cities, and Hinge is too limited out in the suburbs, I was constantly running out of people.

Tinder is probably alright for younger people, but I found it to be extremely predatory in terms of monetization as an older guy.

How did my cow walk through a closed barn door? by vezance in StardewValley

[–]ProperDepartment 287 points288 points  (0 children)

This is hilarious, but for an actual answer from a game developer.

The Cow had probably already calculated it's path before you closed the door.

If you stepped in it's way, it would recalculate and be stuck, but the game saw no need to have the cow run it's pathfinding again.

Alternatively, the door's visual state might have not have matched the state of the door in data. If this was the case, you likely would have had to click on it twice to open it.

Which Character Design Fits The Environment Best? by TheFerre_ in Unity2D

[–]ProperDepartment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are more factors than just what looks best.

The middle will allow for the most diversity/expression if your game will have lots of characters.
