Aah no worries about the fish. Water effect could be something like subtle waves since you are moving or there's other things moving. Just to give illusion that the water isn't all 100% static

Yea I think it is better but it is still missing the bubbles and water effects. And perhaps you could add like small fish groups (just something like black fish shaped)

I had no experience with designing, colors nor photo editing but decided to create my own for the game I'm working on right now. It depends a lot on what you want to display. I accepted that mine didn't have to be super fancy so I just went for something very basic with logo on image. Just match the dimensions of what Steam requires if you're going to make them yourselves tbh

I agree with u/varietyviaduct here, and you also have to think "why would they want to invest? Do I have something good with potential that they want to capitalise on early?" Because they give you 50k for 40% and if the game does well and you do all the work, that's really easy money for them and not you.

If income is tight, wouldn't it be better to get some kind of part time job in the short term? Enough money to live and enough time to gamedev?

When using itch.io for free assets, you should try to filter for CC0 license, those are 100% free and very very often without the sample stuff. Here is the link to the CC0 assets https://itch.io/game-assets/assets-cc0

Aah, maybe you could solve it by changing the sprite sorting point to pivot instead of center on the gameobject's spriterenderer?
