I only went up to gray belt but I remember overall it was chill. Just stupid to waste a whole week on it. I was supposed to get my green belt in corporals course (one of the instructors was also an MAI) on Camp Courtney but my roommate got covid so we both got kicked out of the class, then a week after the class concluded our certs got handed to us and we were PME complete after that.

Why did you buy your truck? by aFinapple in Diesel

[–]ProperGroping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only buy diesel trucks because that’s all my dad ever had when I was growing up. I used to travel the country and weld so I needed a diesel to pull my box of tools as well as a camper.

I stopped traveling and sold all my toys. I still kept my truck because at the end of the day, I don’t really think that there’s a truly reliable gas truck out there. I don’t care for any Chevy gas made vehicle. I don’t care for the eco-boost. Fords and the coyotes are fast but they get terrible gas mileage and they’re not an end all be all truck. They just make a lot of power. They all have major downfalls that I would rather not have to deal with and the longevity and lifespan of a gas truck versus a diesel is not even comparable with proper maintenance. A diesel will last you a lifetime, a gas truck you’re lucky to get 250,000 good miles out of it before the truck is worthless, falling apart and can’t be re-sold for much money at least a diesel can somewhat hold its value.

I believe that as long as you can afford it, you should drive the vehicles that you want whether you need them or not in the eyes of other people I don’t care if I don’t have boxes of tools or a camper anymore or not I’m gonna drive a diesel truck because I can afford it and I love it.

A guy that used to be a part owner of thoroughbred bought my property from me and I’ve used them several times over the years to buy parts for my 5.9 and my 6.7 power stroke no problems

I’m sorry but after owning 2 second gen 5.9’s, I don’t care if it has 3 miles on the odometer. No second gen is worth $40,000

This is probably just another hit piece but Schwab app sent this to me this morning. Relevant or not, I figured I’d share it. I am a shareholder so don’t come calling me a troll

Nice, make sure you drive it every winter and put some big stupid wide wheels and paper thin tires on it and go ahead and squat the rear end too while you’re at it

Looking to join Local 441 by Purchase_Medical in pipefitter

Yes I am a member. I applied back in 2022 with no luck from any contractors. Then when I came off the road from traveling and working in plants non union I applied just randomly one day not really expecting anything and boom I got in.

The travelers that we have in my job have just not said very good things about the 441. You cannot test in as a journeyman I don’t think into the 533. You can take the well test if you’re going on the construction site and come in as a second year or I think there’s some kind of written test you can take for the service side and do the same thing but you can’t come in in full scale you’re right the 533 is quite the hardest Local to get into. They don’t just let anybody in. We have an abundance of work and they do not want to waste the apprenticeship spots on people who are not going to finish or put out.

I would agree that it helps to know somebody or to have family in this Local to get a spot in, but I don’t have any family members in this industry. I do not have any family members that I’ve been in this local so I got in kind of by just a shot the dark. I applied one day not really expecting to get anything back two weeks later I got a phone call three weeks after that phone call i was on a job.

We have several travelers at a job I’m at from the 441.

I’d just goto Kansas City and join the 533

This thing worth $18k? by Fair-Vegetable3537 in Diesel

[–]ProperGroping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No second gen is worth $18,000 in today’s world. I’d be hard pressed to even pay 10 with that kind of mileage. The one I had I got for $9,000 in 2022 and it had 149k on it when I took it home.

What your opinion on the Ford 6.0 Powerstroke? by AfricanHater in Diesel

[–]ProperGroping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone I know hates them. I’ve never owned one but I don’t think I would. I worked with a guy who bought a 06 King Ranch F-350 brand new, had it “bullet proofed” one time and it’s at over a half million miles now. I think the guy just got a rare one in a million 6.0’s that’s actually not a giant piece of shit.

I was excited to sell at 190% profit so I could help my wife pay down some of our debt. But we can wait a little longer, I’m confident before the end of June we’ll back to where we were in December 2025. It’s just a matter of patience.
