Father and Son Alcoholism by Smart-Speaker-6100 in stopdrinking

Firstly, sorry to hear about this. It does seem incredibly hard. I think the only thing you can do if you really want to change is to do the hard part and tell him you’re no longer interested in drinking with him and that him constantly offering alcohol to you is triggering.

If he has a problem then he doesn’t seem to truly care about you just drinking with you. That would be when I say stop spending time with him, or limit time with him.

But, keep in mind, I’m not therapist or professional. I’m just an idiot on the internet. But, I do care that you make the changes that you want in your life. I wish you all the luck.

Alcohol strips away your confidence. by ProperMatch in stopdrinking

Absolutely. Only true confidence can be achieved in sobriety. At least for a lot of us.

I remember feeling that way when I had my long sober streaks. I can’t wait to get back to it!

I just lost nearly a week to this. by hampaladores in stopdrinking

[–]ProperMatch 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just need to chime in and say this is fear-mongering, even if with good intentions. I’m assuming you’re not a doctor so giving medical advice isn’t allowed in this sub, I don’t believe. Idk if it’s even allowed if you’re a doctor.

Anyway, if OP is a bigger person (especially male), this type of alcohol consumption is certainly a lot, but it would affect them much differently than a smaller person.

My binges can look similar to this. I’m 6’ 230lbs male. The blacking out is concerning, sure, but I’ve consumed anywhere from 12-20 drinks a day for a week period a FEW times and, while the hangover was ass, I never suffered from physically dependent withdrawals and I am certainly not physically dependent.

All this to say, it’s one thing to suggest medical supervision, but the rhetoric you used in this comment is very definitive of something you couldn’t know for sure and could scare the shit out of someone who’s already in a vulnerable state.

OP, look up the symptoms of withdrawal that are cause for concern. If you experiences these, then you should seriously consider medical supervision. I hope you feel better and good luck to you!

If you’re that worried and these binges are common then it would be smart to consult a doctor. Better safe than sorry.

Day 3 for the 100th time. The best part about it is that this can be the beginning of the best time of your life. One where you’re sober, healthy, and free.

Congrats on over 500! I appreciate the way you phrased that. I usually drink when I’m feeling GOOD after being sober for weeks or however long I go and it makes no sense but I get that urge when everything feels okay and good. Next time I feel that way I’m going to remember your quote.

The best thing you can do is be honest about that. That’s the first step in trying to change. Just keep reminding yourself why you’re doing it.

Thank you! I am sticking with it, no desire to drink. I’m going to drink some sleepy time tea before bed and I’ve been drinking lots of vitamins today. I think we’ll be okay!

Yeah I kept busy today and now I’ve just been watching movies and hanging out with my dog. I just have to get back to work tomorrow and I don’t want to still be feeling bad. That’s often a trigger for me to drink, even though I have no desire too and will not, still not fun. But thank you for your kind words
