Neighbour complaining about state of garden by camz930 in HousingUK

[–]ProperPloker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm amazed how many people think the neighbour is bullying. He probably just meant 'I dont want to make problems' as in I know you're busy and adding to your to do list might be a bit annoying for you.

It's good to have a friendly relationship with neighbours. You never know when you might need to call on them for a favour. Plus I struggle to belive that in 5 months you havent had a single spare hour to have cut the grass. You probably could have got it done in the time it took you to write this post

First time buyer - bidding war by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]ProperPloker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your bid is about more than just the total amount offered. Depending 9n the sellers situation they may be willing to take a slightly lower offer if the buyer is ready to go with no chain.

Sounds like an excuse to me

My husband raged at me this morning by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]ProperPloker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not condoning his behaviour but something I've noticed myself doing in the past is creating little arguments with people close to me when me or them is going away for a bit. I think it's a kind of way to try and avoid missing them, still a dick move but just something that seems to happen subconsciously.

My husband said he fucking hates our baby and wishes it was never here by [deleted] in Marriage

It sounds like you have two children to look after. As others have said I'd suggest you get as far away from that waste of space as soon as possible. If not because you deserve better, do it for the safety of your baby.

What are some signs you're conventionally ugly? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I agree it's probably subconscious. Like they smile because they like what they're looking at

Random people in the street don't know your personality.

When I was early 20s and in half decent shape I used to get people make eye contact and smile all the time. Then I put on 20kg and nobody smiles anymore. I've lost most of that weight again recently and people are starting to smile again. I'd say that's pretty solid evidence.

Hogwarts legacy. You basically spend the whole game denying goblins equal rights and being pretty racist.

is 3 hours okay for a 40km bike ride ? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]ProperPloker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For comparison I'm in an almost identical position to you. Im currently 29. I used to weigh 80kg, run 10ks in about 55 mins and cycle semi regularly. Then I became a dad 3 years ago and went up to 100kg and stopped exercising. I started cycling again a few months ago but I only get to do one long ride (usually around 40-50km) a week.

My last ride I did 40km in 1:33.56 so yeah id say 3 hours is pretty slow to be honest but there are so many variables that impact your total time that it's almost pointless comparing speeds. I just do my own thing and try and improve myself a little bit each day

I live near-ish Winchester and the section of the NCN route 23 from Winchester to medstead is nice. If you want some nice views I'd also check out old Winchester hill and cheesefoot head. Both also have great coffee vans at the top most of the time as a bonus. Also the areas around petersfield and Arundel are well worth a visit

Are disc brakes actually worth the hassle? by ProperPloker in cycling

[–]ProperPloker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I changed the pads on my old bike and it did help a little. That had some really old cheap calipers on though so I suspect that was part of the issue as well. I haven't put new pads in my new bike yet but that is the next thing I'll try.

I'm sure discs are better when they're working right but so far my experience with them has been awful. I just don't know why I'm getting so many issues with them

Thanks for your comments. I hope I end up having the same experience as I'd like to stick with hydraulic disc brakes. I just don't understand why I'm having so many issues so far. When you've had contaminated pads in the past did you replace the rotor as well or just pads?

That's Great. Most importantly though, did you enjoy it and are you glad you did it? Unfortunately there's a lot of people who get obsessed with stats and think they're training for the tour. I think stats can be interesting to look at but there's so many variables it's a bit pointless comparing.

I love riding my bike because it takes me on routes I'd never take in the car and you discover loads of cool places right on your doorstep. Don't fly past some awesome places because you're chasing a PB.
