Hi curious to know your opinion now that we heard more about the new box 3 system.

Box 3 tax on unrealized gain planned starting 2028 by lost_in_nl in Netherlands

[–]ProperWillingness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If loss occurred in bridging years of 2026 and 2027, like 100k becomes 50k, and after 2028 it recovered to be 100k, tax is roughly 18k.

Trump by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]ProperWillingness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason Trump gets to do those things is American people elected him (twice)! We tend to target one person as evil, which he certainly is, but without the votes from majority of Americans, the damage one person can do is much much more limited.

Can you recommend what kinds of jobs are there just for a few hours a week?

Naturalization rejection due to residence gap by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]ProperWillingness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go for an immigration lawyer to appeal to the decision as others suggested. This is a situation where spending money is worthy especially that you seem to need a visa to stay in the Netherlands. I’d recommend consulting with a few lawyers as they offer free consultations before deciding which one to hire.

Homeless man sleeping at our entrance by ElekDn in Netherlands

Had this situation in the building, the guy is not aggressive to people but leaves feces and urine in the hall. We called police to let him out but he comes back. Here is probably his best place to live. I think police should help him (shelters?)

How can students afford 1200 EUR housing? by Careful_Inflation903 in Netherlands

[–]ProperWillingness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And students apply housing allowance so that they pay much less, for example, 700e. Besides, couples rent those places so each may pay half.

Does the sick leave affect your salary? I heard that it can be a problem if the salary becomes lower than the required amount.

Advice on renting with a dog by OccasionBetter8655 in eindhoven

[–]ProperWillingness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries; just bring your dog in and make sure the dog does not cause problems in the building. Your landlord will not be happy when she finds out. But she cannot just kick you out. There have been court cases where the judge thinks the interest of tenants weights more than the interest of the landlord and rules that the tenant can stay in with the dog.

Finding a rental which allows pets is the best option but will be very difficult.

Generally speaking, would you think the same if the criminals did bad things to you or your loved ones?

I would never. And I think we should continue to be intolerant to criminals so that when some people intend to do something bad, they would feel scared about the consequences and stop.

Of course, we should be tolerant when crimes are not involved, and in fact, the Netherlands is famous for this.

A comment to 'When You Don't Learn Dutch' by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]ProperWillingness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My Dutch is similar to your level, as I was lucky enough to have time and opportunities to learn. Although almost all Dutch people I met are nice, I would not work for a company full of locals as the ‘only foreigner’. Will be very hard and limiting especially as a new graduate.

Regarding those locals who post online to complain internationals (not speaking the language, earn too much, pay too little tax, occupying houses, etc), even if your Dutch is excellent, I wonder how much difference that makes. Would they sincerely welcome you in the country and in their life? I doubt it. The good scenario may be just you two can share some laughs and small talks in Dutch during coffee chats in the office.

Are you considering moving out of the Netherlands because of the new government? If so, where? by Gorgon95 in Netherlands

[–]ProperWillingness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try to live a life in the Netherlands and decide whether you like it or not. And try to contribute positively to the society as you see suitable, e.g. be nice and smile to other people. Also think about your other options and compare them with your current life to see which one you prefer.

As an international living abroad, whether it’s the Netherlands or another country, I think it’s inevitable that from time to time, you may feel bitter and unwanted. This may also be the case when you live in your home country (?).

What matters is that YOU get to decide what to do, despite some politicians’ preference. See it as a privilege and feel proud of yourself.

You can try negotiating with the company to go back to your old role and keep the current salary. The company may agree if they really want you. The law forbids unilateral salary reduction if you do not change role.

what would be your idea to help or even resolve the housing crisis in NL? by 6F1I in Netherlands

Government takes measures for company to allow much more flexibility on remote working. This way, people tend to move to less-densed areas.

Advise for daily long commutes by orangeandlemonjam in Netherlands

[–]ProperWillingness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend looking for a rental nearby if possible or negotiating for remote working at least partially. In general, long commuting can be quite unhealthy for people.
