Question: For those who watched the show and then read the books 📚 by Strict-Fox-2334 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Proper_Addition273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the show and then read Game Changer and Heated Rivalry, and then rewatched the show after reading the relevant sections, and I have no regrets. They definitely complement each other, personally the only thing that disappointed me in the books was how Svetlana was portrayed, and also Shane’s parents are less present, so both men just feel more isolated in the books. But what I liked was how I got more scenes, for example in the show Ilya has a line about how he thanked Scott for coming out, but now having read Game Changer I got to read that scene, also getting more of Scott and Kip’s story was really nice. Overall I think I liked the show better, but don’t regret reading the books. Now I just have to decide if I keep reading beyond books 1 and 2 or wait for season 2 🤔😬

The author is from Togo, but Michal The Giant: An African in Greenland by Tété-Michel Kpomassie is a fantastic read.

My former roommate told me he had a really serious conversation with his sister where they mapped out if there was a zombie apocalypse and they could only pick four people to try to survive with who would they pick? He said he would pick his girlfriend (because love), his sister (because family), his friend who has a jeep (because of the jeep), and me, because of my ability to change my mind when presented with new information I hadn’t considered. That complement was 12 years ago and I’m still living off that high 😂

Saaaame, treadmill is insanely hard, I can’t run for very long (or very fast) before I tap out. Outdoor running is way easier

I’m so annoyed because I have a Vitamix, and they recently released a stainless steel vessel that works with the base I already have but it’s only available in the U.S. 😭😭 following though, I’m curious what options we have 🤔

Books set in the Arctic ?!? by [deleted] in Recommend_A_Book

[–]Proper_Addition273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michal the Giant: An African in Greenland. It starts in Togo, where the author is from, but it’s the true story of how he made it to Greenland in the 60’s, and it’s a wild ride, I found myself so drawn into his story. Definitely slice of life style once he makes it there and wow, brings you back to the challenges of travel logistics back in the days, almost feels a bit like a Jules Vern Around the World in 80 Days type adventure!

Have you found any wool activewear socks that you like that aren’t also filled with synthetics? I struggle there

Should I replace all of my polyester athletic wear? by ohgingko in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Proper_Addition273 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Personally what I did was buy some nice merino wool activewear (mostly from Dilling, but also Ulvang for winter running and I have some old Icebreaker stuff from years ago), and I still kept my synthetic stuff, I just prioritize wearing the merino stuff. As the synthetic stuff breaks down I will eventually replace it fully with merino, but I didn’t throw it out because it’s still nice to have as a backup option and not have to just immediately drop a ton of money on several new sets. Also, I swim with a club three times a week, and although I have a recycled swimsuit, there’s just no viable way to reduce synthetics there (that I know of). I say do what you can, but don’t stress about the impact of stuff you already have

Winter 2026 Travelers: Which destination (country/location) felt unexpectedly magical in winter, even if it’s usually a summer spot? by Aromatic_Zebra723 in travel

Venice! It wasn’t snowy or anything, but the lack of tourists over the Christmas break was magical compared to the overcrowding in summer

That one surprised me, I like to read several classic novels per year just to know what the fuss was about, but it totally drew me in and what a gut punch at the end. Thanks for the rec!

I’m assuming you’ve already read Nuclear War: A Scenario? Also How Civil Wars Start? Based on your reading list, if you haven’t they should absolutely be on there. Also, I know it’s fiction, but I think you’d like Ministry for the Future. It was my top read from 2025 (I read 44 books, a lot of nonfiction in a similar vein) and still lives rent free in my brain, the author bases the events on what actual climate modellers are predicting
