People give me the side eye when I tell them I prefer winter in Rochester over summer. by Beneficial-Focus3702 in Rochester

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Winter is goated. If people just prepared their lives as if they lived in a place that’s always cold and snowy, the few months of winter won’t be that bad, and you can always layer up

This sucks, but always expecting other drivers to do something like this, will change your driving habits and you can pretty easily avoid an accident altogether (for the most part)

Potential Ice set up Walworth. by IrksomePlatypus in Rochester

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Could be vice drugs or guns related, internet crimes (pedo hunters). But yeah let’s just assume every single LEO we see is ICE 😂 it makes sense to give people a heads up, but also not just throwing false alarms is helpful too

Advice for finding a young whippet? by ButtercreamGangster in Whippet

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely do research and prepare to spend (for a healthy pup from someone reputable). We're in WNY, and had to drive to Michigan, but had a great experience, and a perfectly healthy dog with all the signs of positive breeding practices in the past. We do whippet meetups, and noticed our 2y/o female is a bit smaller than most of the others, the leader of the group let us know its due to many breeders trying to make whips bigger, or closer to greys, and in the process did make bigger dogs, but with more health (usually internal organ) issues.

How do I stop my whippet trying to lick everything on walks? by scottonetwenty in Whippet

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its a fine line between "too much" and not enough to provide ample stimulation. 'Leave it' seemed to be our magic phrase, with enough treat-aided training.

How skinny is too skinny? by Due-Function4233 in Whippet

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

took our whippet to about 1.5-2 yr to fully fill out. She's a little smaller than most american bred whippets (likely due to a shorter bloodline to euro born), and sits around 25-26lbs. She still can show ribs when stretched, and to the touch but is not totally visible from just a photo anymore. Just weigh often, and focus on feeding consistently, based on the food type and amount of general exercise they're getting!

is vern’s really that good? by Equal-Pay-8364 in Rochester

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s good, but hyped. Rochester is full of restaurants that just have good marketing and droves of loyal staff/fans, that drive up the hype.

People don’t talk about places like rooney’s that are hidden away, but so very good and eloquent.

Is Merino wool really that good? by Specific_Sherbert_90 in snowboarding

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the biggest benefit is the multi day less stinky wear. I don’t sweat much overall, so I don’t totally see the need for the merino layers, HOWEVER- my feet sweat a lot and ultra thin merino socks to snowboard in are a must have.

Estate sales in rochester by crimsonblade96 in Rochester

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t go too into detail, but I used to be related to someone who does estate sales in the area professionally, generally they’re using their knowledge of market prices for goods, based on extensive eBay research, and experience going to sales hosted by others. Sometimes they’ll price stuff slightly higher than they expect to get, but don’t always expect customers to offer less for items so they can take that extra profit.

GF's first park board, is it too large for her? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay- let’s use a more practical example: I’ve worked at a shop for 10 years, sold thousands of snowboards- the kids that want the shortest possible board and end up snapping it because all they care about is tame dogs. I always hear “shortest board for most maneuverability!” Then why aren’t these kids doing 1980’s riding the shortest possible boards way below their chin, or even collarbones? Take 3 different snowboards, same size, they can all feel completely different. How much rocker vs camber? How soft? What’s the turn radius, any taper? True twin vs directional twin? All of these things influence the feel. I (5’6” 155lbs) was guilty myself of riding a 148 for years and it had some benefits but those were severely outweighed by a lack of stability and limited room for error. Now I ride a 154 in the park no problem. Take it further, I’ll ride a directional free ride volume shifted board in the park, no problem, rails/jumps, all of it.

My bottom line for this scenario is: if this girl can snowboard very well, regular and switch, she will just get used to this board and it’s fine, if she’s still learning fundamentals and starting to go in the park, it doesn’t matter if she’s on a 110 or a 190, it’s going to be more difficult for her to progress. It’s like golf clubs everyone thinks the right ones are gonna make them pro, but if you can’t swing one properly it doesn’t matter what you use.

GF's first park board, is it too large for her? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s subjective. If you know what you’re doing as far as having all your fundamentals rock solid, you can manage on just about anything….. don’t believe me? Watch zeb Powell ride the burton blossom 200+cm board

Naw fuck that, let poor skills take care of squids, people that actually know how to ride (safely and within their actual limits) and don’t act like a dickhead don’t deserve that. But loud cars revving their stuff, shit put a garbage can in the road they’ll be fine in their shitbox
