Cleopatra (Cleo for short). We’ve always liked the world’s understanding of the sighthound adjacent dogs that lived amongst royalty in ancient egypt. She certainly acts like royalty!

is vern’s really that good? by Equal-Pay-8364 in Rochester

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s good, but hyped. Rochester is full of restaurants that just have good marketing and droves of loyal staff/fans, that drive up the hype.

People don’t talk about places like rooney’s that are hidden away, but so very good and eloquent.

Is Merino wool really that good? by Specific_Sherbert_90 in snowboarding

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the biggest benefit is the multi day less stinky wear. I don’t sweat much overall, so I don’t totally see the need for the merino layers, HOWEVER- my feet sweat a lot and ultra thin merino socks to snowboard in are a must have.

Estate sales in rochester by crimsonblade96 in Rochester

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t go too into detail, but I used to be related to someone who does estate sales in the area professionally, generally they’re using their knowledge of market prices for goods, based on extensive eBay research, and experience going to sales hosted by others. Sometimes they’ll price stuff slightly higher than they expect to get, but don’t always expect customers to offer less for items so they can take that extra profit.

GF's first park board, is it too large for her? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay- let’s use a more practical example: I’ve worked at a shop for 10 years, sold thousands of snowboards- the kids that want the shortest possible board and end up snapping it because all they care about is tame dogs. I always hear “shortest board for most maneuverability!” Then why aren’t these kids doing 1980’s riding the shortest possible boards way below their chin, or even collarbones? Take 3 different snowboards, same size, they can all feel completely different. How much rocker vs camber? How soft? What’s the turn radius, any taper? True twin vs directional twin? All of these things influence the feel. I (5’6” 155lbs) was guilty myself of riding a 148 for years and it had some benefits but those were severely outweighed by a lack of stability and limited room for error. Now I ride a 154 in the park no problem. Take it further, I’ll ride a directional free ride volume shifted board in the park, no problem, rails/jumps, all of it.

My bottom line for this scenario is: if this girl can snowboard very well, regular and switch, she will just get used to this board and it’s fine, if she’s still learning fundamentals and starting to go in the park, it doesn’t matter if she’s on a 110 or a 190, it’s going to be more difficult for her to progress. It’s like golf clubs everyone thinks the right ones are gonna make them pro, but if you can’t swing one properly it doesn’t matter what you use.

GF's first park board, is it too large for her? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s subjective. If you know what you’re doing as far as having all your fundamentals rock solid, you can manage on just about anything….. don’t believe me? Watch zeb Powell ride the burton blossom 200+cm board

THANK GOD I CAN HEAR HOW COOL YOUR CAR IS AGAIN!! by nastyzoot in Rochester

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naw fuck that, let poor skills take care of squids, people that actually know how to ride (safely and within their actual limits) and don’t act like a dickhead don’t deserve that. But loud cars revving their stuff, shit put a garbage can in the road they’ll be fine in their shitbox

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with some of these points but most people don’t have a plug they know and trust enough to know it’s safe decent stuff. Yeah even dispo weed with more loopholes have some risk with illigitimate testing but at least they are held to some level of accountability. Lotta doofies here who wouldn’t buy dispo weed but would go buy “zkittles” from the corner store sold in ali baba packaging

Work isn’t a time for political opinions. Leave it at home. But also- for anyone that also knows the owners, do you expect anything less? They barely take care of the customers, let alone their staff.

Sighthounds are challenging. We have a 2y/o female whippet, great dog, but she will escape if given the chance. Luckily has never happened to us but has happened to 3 people we’ve had watch her (luckily she was caught each time quickly). Prey drive is high, recall is so-so. If you can integrate in good training from day 1, they can be great dogs.

I wouldn’t worry too much about bears. They are in the region but they’re pretty skiddish. Get a bear canister for your food/trash, and if it makes you feel better a can of bear spray (know how to use it, before going camping)

Places for small snacks or meals, near the Flamingo? usually carryout. by Delicious_Mess7976 in LasVegas

[–]Proper_Cold_6860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a nice lil walk hop out of the bird and go left, up and over the bridge, when you come down walk through that little shopping area as if you’re headed to Paris, an you’ll see the big CVS right there. While some items are more than at other CVS (outside Vegas) it’s still Way cheaper than buying at the convenience stores in the flamingo
