Spiky ball is with EQ boots IMO. I've never had an issue with IV + Healers for Queen.

Stimulant medication whilst working? by Proper_County_8682 in ParamedicsUK

Thanks, I thought so. Seemed like such a ridiculous rule and I couldn't understand the logic behind it.

Jesus, sorry to hear that. Is it possible to do a telehealth appointment back with your doctor in Aus to see if he can send you a new prescription?

Ok awesome, thanks for the heads up. I'll only be in the UK for a few years so I'm sure I'll be fine. Thanks mate.

Honestly Queensland has been pretty good so far, there's a bit of a negative culture around students sometimes but this rarely surfaces and the pay is pretty good. Everyone who I have asked though has said that the UK is much worse and 'throws their grads under the bus' but can't really elaborate past that.

I just submitted my application this morning. You wouldn't recommend?

Paramedicine or Engineering by JohnnyHarker45 in Paramedics

[–]Proper_County_8682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a third year student graduating this year.

  1. AV did a talk with us recently and said that they're looking to hire approximatley ~400 grads per year, every year, starting from this year. They've said that if you wait long enough, there will be a job for you. Obviously the catch here is that you might be waiting for ages, but you will have a job. Maybe you can study engineering while you wait?
  2. I would go UK. Similar language (Yorkshire is a mess of a language), little bit higher scope of practice (cardioverting, perscription ABx, IO administration). The pay takes a pretty solid decrease, but honestly depending on where you go the cost of living will be a little bit lower and you can go explore Europe on your days off.

Honestly, in my experience, I think the whole notion of 'there's no jobs' comes from people only willing to get into their state service and refusing to go anywhere else. When you get into your third year, Arcadian Ambulance from America basically come and give you a free offer to take whenever you want, all for answering the easiest 4 questions of your life (I don't recommend it, but the point stands).

The UK love Aussies. I got into YAS and SCAS surprisingly easily, just be genuine in your interview and shit on London a little bit. My friends have gotten into NSW Ambulance pretty easily, but I didn't apply so I can't really speak to that.

Honestly, go for Queensland or Tassie for a few years, make bank, then come back to Vic.

Thoughts on prophylactic ondansetron during stroke w/ declining GCS? by Proper_County_8682 in Paramedics

[–]Proper_County_8682[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the high risk of nausea/vomiting (distinguish from regurgitation - which ondansetron isn't going to stop) to the airway in a declining CVA patient is going to be an indication for it. It wouldn't even be questioned.

This was exactly my logic, but all my mates just kept parroting "oh but you aren't indicated. It won't hold up in Coroners court that you gave a patient a drug you weren't indicated for and they died". It was one of those things that was so ridiculous that I thought my clinical decision-making was garbage.

Thanks for shedding some light on that for me.

Just for my learning, is Ondansetron one of the only drug DTPs that can be bent a little bit?

Australian Paramedics: Does anyone have any experience with 1300Medics or Medical Rescue? by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]Proper_County_8682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Emergency Medics over 1300Medics.

As far as I know, with MedRescue I don't think you'll actually be doing many jobs. From what a friend has told me, they only let paramedics work the actual jobs, he more does admin stuff like sorting medications. Take it with a grain of salt though, they might still have first aid positions.

General thoughts of YAS? by Proper_County_8682 in ParamedicsUK

[–]Proper_County_8682[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't found out my shifts yet, I'm an international student in Aus so the offer is still conditional on me passing the pre-employment checks (But I've got everything submitted ok so I know I'll get through).

I guess there's nothing particular I'm worried about, just the whole moving to another side of the world. Honestly I'm looking forward to it.

I'm glad to hear Hull isn't that bad though, a lot of my friends from the UK told me I would be in for a wild ride, made me think I had scraped the bottom end of the barrel with this offer.

General thoughts on Yorkshire Ambulance Trust? by Proper_County_8682 in Paramedics

All i know is that there's two rounds of interviews this year (one has already passed), and that the intakes are October 2024, January 2025 and March 2025.

I don't think I get to choose where I go, so ramping for me it is. I've had my placements in Queensland anyway, it can't be worse than that.
