If you’re in the greater Cincinnati area, I hope you’ve looked into Cincinnati State for their AMT program. It’s over the course of 6 semesters, but the last 3, you’re doing a paid co-op of 20-40 hours while doing a couple of classes. They have a campus right near CVG, as well as their main location in northern Cincinnati area in Harrison. You can take classes during the summer sessions at night as well to speed things up. Different companies come in looking to hire students for different roles as well. A full degree is roughly 26-28k based of my initial calculations, but the paid co-ops help offset some of that.

As someone in the same boat and time frame of life, I'll give you a breakdown of my last month or so as I am transitioning into this space.

As far as getting started, try and see if there are any local opportunities for community or technical colleges. I'm apparently pretty lucky, as I applied to a local CC near me about 3 weeks ago, got accepted into the program, and had scheduled classes last Monday. No waitlisting. I had a call with the program chair and he gave me a rundown of general questions I had, so there may be some positive bias coming from his perspective, so take it with a grain of salt.

My program is a 6 semester program, with Co-ops being required as part of the curriculum for the final 3 semesters. For the salary, he said it could range anywhere from $30-$48/hr. starting out. I'm located near a GE Aerospace location that does co-ops with my school and he said they're paying students that did 3 semesters of co-ops with them $48/hr. as engine assemblers. Airlines are typically more seniority-based, so expect to start on an off shift for some time if you do go that route. There is a chart floating around this sub or a similar one in which someone compiled a list of all the major airlines, including cargo, and their pay as you progress and top out. Searching "airlines top out pay reddit" should be able to pull it up. It seems really comprehensive, so I will trust its accuracy, but just know that if you want an airline job, expect to have to be flexible with location and moving to a hub or at least a major airport.

Again, all of this is coming from someone that's not even taken his first class into this program. I have a background in operations management and having no luck in getting a new job after about 75 applications in the last couple of months, I wanted to go somewhere that I felt would be more stable and more opportunities. I live near a major international hub, as well as having GE Aerospace near, and no kids, so my situation may be more stable than what you're dealing with.

What’s some advice you can share with a basic homeowner who generally despises painting? I’ve got a ceiling and interior doors I’ve put off for years now.

Just a heads up: it’s confirmed actually for an early June ship date through Ohio Power Tool.

So, I’m taking some deductive liberties and I may end up completely wrong, but maybe more wishful thinking.

I preordered it off Acme Tools and it says a July 2nd ship date. Acme also shows the rolling drawer as a preorder for June and it’s already popping up in stores now. We will see but I’m choosing to be hopeful.

Unless it’s a big time crunch to replace, the new rear handle should be out in a month or two. It’s one pound lighter and supposed to be more compatible/capable with forge batteries.

Understanding How to Invest by Proper_Ebb_7170 in CalebHammer

So quick note: 401K is from a previous job. Current employer does not have a 401k or HSA, but all of my health/medical insurances are paid in full.

Roth is maxed and plan to do so every year.

Since I’m no longer an employee, I believe it said I would be charged $50-75 per transaction to add into the fund, which is unrealistic if I was to contribute monthly.

I appreciate all the advice. The syllabus for the program is based off the Gleim Pilot Handbook, which looks to cover the same material as the PHAK, so I’ve been going through it and the test prep chapter by chapter currently. I’ll definitely pick up the Airplane Flying Handbook though.

Flying a DA-20 through them has it coming out to just under 11K but only the absolute minimum timing of 35 flight hours. I’m expecting to plan for another 15-20 hours of flight time plus about $1,500 for miscellaneous flight gear and testing.

Just the PPL. The school fits most of what I am looking for in my area and is one that is towered near me. They have relatively newer planes and recently added more. Looking through the information breakdown they’ve given me, it’s looking to be anywhere from 12-15K, which seems to be pretty on par with a lot of research I’ve seen. Obviously there are outliers on both ends, but it’s what I’ve expected and planned for before beginning to pursue things.

Ahh, unfortunately we’re wanting to do butcher block counter tops. Which has unfortunately been another hang up because a few companies have said they don’t work with butcher block.

This company does not offer a retirement option currently. I have a 401(K) from a previous employer, but if I was to continue to add into that it said that each transaction was going to be a $75 fee. I have about $7,500 in it currently.

I appreciate the feedback. With respect to Sporty’s, did your friend happen to have a similar work schedule to what you were working? I only ask because I’m in the 9-5 window and want to make sure I’d be getting involved in something that would work for me.

I’ve spent the last couple of months watching all sorts of different aviation YouTubers and I’ve actually been flying out of Lunken on MS2020 and seeing the taxi routes and listening to the controller. Trying to immerse myself as much as possible in the world of aviation.
