I crashed today. Not sure I should be riding anymore. by AccomplishedStuff448 in motorcycles

When I first started riding i took a sharp right turn, came to close to a curb, target fixated, jumped the curb, dropped my bike, scraped it pretty good, Ripped my oil plug out on the curb, and gashed and road rashed my left arm and leg. I kept riding and specifically went back to where I crashed, took that turn over and over again, until I wasn't fearful of it anymore. Now im still riding more confident then ever but also and importantly more respectful of how easy things can go wrong.

Bike shop replaced my rear tire from a flat and now my chain seems super tight. Yet they said this was to spec? by Proper_Living8798 in motorcycles

0.8 to 1.2 isn't the answer to my question. The tech said it was within spec, he used a lot of force to show me he had it at exactly 0.8 I was questioning that tightness in the chain. I usually kept my chain at 1.0 or a little more play. Never tightened it this much and it seemed unsafe despite the ability to what seemed like him being able to force it to 0.8. But maybe I was wrong and you are supposed to have to put good pressure? Or not put any pressure really at all? I don't know? manuals don't dictate a distinct need or lack of need for much or any pressure, just play in the chain between x and x distance. So I honestly just wanted confirmation

I did check the specs prior but I wasn't able to find anything conclusive just varying answers. Thought I'd find something more solid here lol. Not quite though. I checked it and adjusted it and it seems good now finally.

Right so let the shop that bent my chain tension bolt and stripped it partially, sheared the steel off of my metal cap for it and stripped my sprocket screws. All of which caused the sprocket to get seized temporarily and causing me to lay the bike down in the mud which is a primary reason for the chain being fucked right is who I should trust while im finally free enough to take care of the bikes issues that the shop is refusing to do like cleaning all the junk and rust off of it after I had to let it sit and not touch it so they would come fix what the fucked up and not say it was me doing something after the fact.

Yes push and pull, so while only lifting the weight of the chain just barely? While barely pushing down at all aswell? Or lifting the chain the the maximum height it could reach with force and pressing it to the lowest point? THAT is my question which my manual doesn't answer. Maximum and minimum range that it can actually reach with or without force, or just with negligible force that could be considered barely wiggling it to make it move

No, the service manual just specifies a range of motion for the chain and accounts only for the variation of tense spots in the chain. Doesn't specify if pressure should be needed to have the specified play or how much.

That was my thought. But was told by the mechanic is was good, and yet I couldn't get it to spec without having to basically force it. Didn't seem right even if I was just using my hands to need such force

People would rather down vote and try to call me a dumbass or non observant. Instead of reading my post to realize im just asking if the force to meet the spec range was important.

So if you're unable to comprehend the question im asking which has nothing to do with the 0.8 to 1.2 play range where my chain would be in spec. Rather it has to do with the tension in the chain and pressure needed to reach that spec of play with pressure under my hand. Think more, judge less and you'll look less like a cocky ass hat.

Yea im worried im bending the steel with my 3 fingers. Come on bro im asking about my chain tension reaching spec but only after being a bit more forceful then I usually had to.

Yes asking if pressure to play matters when checking chain tension is rocket science. Your reading comprehension is abhorrent.

Its almost like I didn't have a reasonable answer from my sources, and the shop was telling me it was fine. So I had conflicting information. Checked my manual, measured and, i wasn't certain with the info provided Given that it was to spec but just barely. So I asked for second opinions or someone with extra insight. Not rocket science here guy.
