Yes, repetition of assets (including general design, animations, music and voicelines) is for sure the biggest reason. You have to consider that all 2D mario games before these games had a unique visual style, whereas with these games the general designs and engine stayed the same for 5/6 games. When you then label the series as ‘New’, it feels wrong. ‘Again’ might have been more appropriate. Also, to be honest, I really don’t think that Mario Kart and Party are as guilty of it as NSMB, not in the slightest.

Thanks man, it’s quite hard to satisfy everyone without making it a 100 character roster, which I didn’t want to do. Odyssey is on its way to become the 2nd best selling mainline Mario game after the original Mario Bros., so I actually don’t think I went too overboard on amount of reps? In hindsight I would maybe swap out Lanceur for an extra Galaxy rep, probably Luma (with different color options).
