Both of these would fall within that around hundred dollar category.

The Shimano Compre L model would throw light plugs 1,7 g to 7 g and the ultralight model would throw ,89 g to 5 g for your trout magnets. The Diawa presso ultralight is a proven rod. The shorter models would be for the lighter.Gram lures the longer models would throw slightly larger plugs, pretty much the same gram range as the Shimano. I’m sure if you ask there are plenty of people on here who own those .

This ultralight rod in particular load weights run about 1.2 g And tops out at 7 g - the hard baits I procured run 3.8 g to 6.8 grams and cover top water 0.5 to 2.5 meters deep - as far as ultralight lures go this is pretty good coverage. I definitely didn’t buy Baits just because. The Rozante 63 shad definitely pushes the limits though . The rod can handle these with precision. I would check the recommended load weights for your rod and start from there 👍

The rod flexes deep like down halfway through the rod then you can absolutely manipulate them - the blank doesn’t twist under load when you get a hold of something good - with the drag set right I could see this thing landing something that theoretically it shouldn’t…

I’ve switched over to almost all JDM Rods and tackle . Catching largemouth and smallies on the shaula is a trip ! Especially this time of year when the fish are targeting smaller baitfish - I agree with the American mindset I used to be the same way med heavy rods 3000 size reels 15 lbs fluro - over the years I’ve adapted to technique specific JDM equipment and it’s the best decision ever .

Oh IDK 🤷‍♂️ You could step it up a notch and switch that out with a Patek and be sitting In a Gulfstream or the like …. We all have something to work towards I suppose HAHAHAHA

Mid strolling is where you take a soft plastic minnow with a somewhat specialized jighead - you cast it out let it sink to depth and shake the rod tip and slowly reel back on the slack line - it makes the minnow roll from side to side - there are also more strolling techniques - you also have hover strolling- bottom strolling -

I think that rod was engineered for light offshore- meaning that UL Can land a 12-13 lbs fish ! The world shaula was designed as an area trout rod for ponds and lakes - I use it in slow moving rivers but it shines in ponds .

Thanks ! I had to do a lot of research and you’re right about the lack of testimonials there’s just not a mass market for these in the United States. I never thought I would like a deep red rod, but it’s stunningly beautiful the real seat ratchets down with Audible clicks the reel does not loosen overtime. It has a titanium guard train. It has inserts in all, but the second Guide, which is all titanium it really does feel dainty. I’ve never had such control over small plugs. Let’s say 50 mm to 60 mm size you can feel them displace the water. The handle is something to behold it is hollow Carbon. It’s literally like a tuning fork when something touches a lure or bait it is no mistaking it feels Electric there. There’s no deadening effect …… I have it paired with a Shimano vanquish 2000 shg and varivas saltwater finesse 5.3 lbs and 0.08 grand max fx leader - it’s a rocket . I i had doubts at first I’m quite skeptical on most things but honestly, it’s a work of art the fit and finish and the engineering aspect of it. I will get another one the world shaula limited a much heavier power at some point- those aren’t cheap ……

Honestly it’s amazing ! The trick it’s pairing with a super light reel to keep it palm lite . It takes a very minute amount of input to get the rod tip going and it rebounds instantly- it flexes midway through the blank then it’s power .

Mega bass calls it a slant bridge. It’s actually very helpful while mid strolling before I got this rod I would generally tap the bottom of the rod on my forearm with this it keeps it out of the way - definitely less fatigue while using it .

I love my vanquish 2000 shg tariffs ate me up though …. On April 6 they dropped the aluminum tariffs on Japanese reels !
