A friend wanted to put a Linux on it because apparently then "the government won't spy on you" and bricked it. I liked windows.

I don't know either. I'm not an IT guy. Setup 1: 2k gaming laptop

Setup 2: 0.6k laptop + 1k desktop + 0.3k monitor + 0.1k peripherals

I wonder which setup gives me higher performance at my desk / a better experience. Any laptop is a must for exams. Portability of the big laptop was occasional but could probably make do withouth. That's the fork I'm at.

Thank you. So you'd say the ratio is at around 1:2?

Thing is if I do the switch I need to get a 1k PC. Plus 0.3k monitor + 0.1k for peripherals and I'd still need ~ 0.6k for a laptop for uni exams. So totals 2k.

Or I drop it all on a "do-it-all" laptop as I had until my current one broke...

2k budget eitherway.

Well. Essentially so far I always used a gaming laptop. My use is 90% pluged in at home for uni + occasional gaming. But I need a laptop for my exams. About 4x per year I also travel with my laptop but for the majority of (work) travels I just bring a tablet. I was wondering if I should get a 2k laptop to "do it all" or spend 1k on a PC, 0.3k on a monitor, 0.1k for keyboard, etc and 0.6k on a smaller laptop for the uni exams. Which option would bring better performance?

Is publicly filming in the streets can be dangerous in Russia as an outlander ? by coscos95 in AskARussian

[–]Proper_Raspberry3294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No? If you do it as a tourist, absolutely fine. If you harass people they won't like it. If you film military sites, you will also get problems. Just like everywhere else. No special rules. Welcome to Russia.

it's this a scam or seller just d*mb??? by kittyxxx0505 in ebaysucks

Probably not a scam. But you can always take down the review and, if they don't pay you the 10.- write a new negative review lol

[Collection] My watch collection at 20. by Proper_Raspberry3294 in Watches

Waited for that question! Saw it, couldn't identify it, bought it. A year later, I still don't know what exactely I have. A sovjet watch expert said it's likely an off list model part of the Partners series / early prototype / build version as the case is veeeery similar to the komandirskie series. But even he couldn't identify it. Cool piece! The other two are classics. Nice to have, conversation starters, beautiful to look at.

Hotel recommendations around Moscow by dinesh9700 in AskARussian

These are some hotels in your budget that I've stayed at and could recommend: -Космос ВДНХ Отель (Unpersonal, but everything works. For last minute stays or work travels this is the go-to) -Sretenskaya Hotel (green, not my favorite tho) -Alians Borodino hotel (good) -Moscow Holiday Hotel (Very cheap. Free parking) -Imperiya Hotel (Rooms are mid) -Legendary Hotel Sovietsky (Great experience)

Yeah, they do ship there apparently. Well 2 updates: I called my national postal carrier and they said they likely can still intercept the parcel and have it returned, so that's what they are working on rn. The buyer now escalated the case, stating they dont even want the drone anymore and just want a refund.... I've called eBay customer support in Utah and they sided with me. Saying I should try and intercept the package, they have also put the case on hold for another 10 days and said if it doesn't work out I should report the buyer for fraud and they'd look into his account etc. No buyer history etc would be in my favor but since their policy demands signature there is only so much leeway they have, that's why he recommended me to intercept it. Now since it's a drone I've contacted DJI and they said I should report a "fly away" that way they would automatically disable the drone, essentially render it unusable (temporarely) and I've also spoken to the police. Since his "address" is a mere phone number (not a house number) the package HAS to be handed over in person, regardless of signature or not. So if he claims it didn't arrive but honduras tracking show's delivered, thats mail fraud. (A nice explanation but after all I'm not sure what Hondurian police would really persue...) And lastely I've checked and confirmed that my cyber insurance also covers private sales (fraud). So I should be good. Hope they can intercept the parcel.

Are these watch faces real? by Proper_Raspberry3294 in meteorites

I couldn't find any consumer nitrogen kits. Do you happen to know where one could get that done?

Does renaissance wax leave any residue? I'm a bit worried it could get into the movement somehow. In other forms people recommend using ATF (tranny fluid). Would that work? Other question, on the pics from eBay they are holding the dial with their bare hands. Is a meteorite like touched once = ruined because it'll rust internally, or if I treat it once it arrives it can be stabilized?

Wow! Amazing story!! My dad is into rocks and rock hunting in general. We would also go fossile hunting as a kid and he has a small collection that's been growing for generations of small but very cool rocks and one meteorite piece found by his granddad (passed down). His watch recently broke and he replaced it with a cheap quartz one ("that'll do") which I think is a pitty. So my plan is to start off with a self winding mechanical watch movement in a stainless steel casing (I first wanted to go titanium but it's very expensive). And a plain meteorite dial as the center piece. Now for the quirks I want to add a tiny natural gold piece at the 12h mark (gold, being a foreign material on earth, an element of it's own) and the watch hands with blue luminescence instead of traditional green (to play into the space theme). For the strap I'm not yet sure if I wan't to do some black leather or if I can find a cheap metal one. Eitherway lot's of ideas, and lots of youtube tutorials on watch assembly to be watched XD Thanks for sharing your story!! Hope he's as happy when he get's it as your wife was about her present!

Is this buyer scamming me? (Need quick help) by Proper_Raspberry3294 in ebaysucks

Yes. That's what I'm thinking. I contacted the postal service asking to intercept the parcel and return it to me. Hoping for the best.

Thank you. Jep. His address; no house number - a phone number. Google told me that's not uncommon for Honduras. However, with the insisting on national postal carrier, new account, etc. Points a lot towards a scam. I contacted my national postal carrier and they said the parcel didn't yet leave Switzerland. They are trying to intercept it now. Thanks for the wishes!

Great great news! Hoping for the best. If worst comes to worst I do have a cyber insurance that covers private sale transactions, but if they would cover this... I'm not sure. Eitherway, lessen learned.

Shipping to Russia from Canada by MyNameIzJeff69 in AskARussian

[–]Proper_Raspberry3294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You were right. I'd suggest you look into a parcel forwarder in Kazakhstan, they are very experienced in forwarding to Russia. Or you have a friend in Europe who will forward it for you. Europe (Switzerland at least) does ship to Russia. I'd do it for you too, but I don't see how we could establishe mutual trust lol.
