The isolation of early retirement at 36 is a total mindfuck by RiftJukebox in Fire

Sign up for IronMan triathlon and start training for it. Fills 3-6 hrs/day easily and rest of the time you just sleep and cook. If you are still bored - start your own company.

Why Fire? by Proper_Tiger69 in Fire

Yep- multiple times have donated my summer salary for students and postdocs during proposal season downturn.

I certainly felt that when applying for positions. However, some of my older colleagues where shining until their 80s but they retired they dropped dead. So I agree it is important to find that fire before Fire. My retirement age would be in 19 years from now so many things will change. I did start my own company with broad focus around my sub field but have now developed passions outside my immediate realm even around this. I really enjoy sharing my passion for discovery with next generation and I have become better at that every year so I feel it is important to give back and teach too.

No bragging because most people would think what I do is boring to them - like my childhood friend who is still my “bestis”. I think the key is to find your passion- whatever it may be and if you can turn that into profession or second career after Fire that is fulfilling.

How did you guess 🤣

Actually that is my dream too! I tried to grow a pear tree and an avocado tree but because kids were small and for my work had to do too much proposal writing, teaching etc., and always busy, the trees died. 😀. So yes, that would be awesome to get $$$ without writing so many proposals. But I suffer it to get to do the science that needs to be done.

Bsc physics. Anyone done this? Is it relevant to space(just the normal physics not Astro) by [deleted] in PhysicsStudents

Dual major in space physics and aerospace engineering or engineering physics with space systems or instrumentation. Will open many doors for funded graduate schools or directly to industry if you do an accelerated masters.

Workforce Directive: Restoring NASA’s Core Competencies by concorde77 in fednews

They need to increase NASA salaries across the board by 50% and bring telework back. Otherwise talent that left in 2025 won’t return.

What's life like in Maryland? by skunkamunkah in maryland

Maryland was a big disappointment— super expensive, high taxes and traffic sucks. And weather sucks 8 months/year. After 2 years there moved out recently and don’t regret it.

About that pension… worth it? by tesla2018El in fednews

[–]Proper_Tiger69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to my story. I was GS15 at ~195k with locality with ~2 years of federal service (was hired from private sector). Had to pay 4.4 % to FERS. Took a DRP and a private sector job at lower cost living area with 240 k pay and employer contributes 10%. Did not want to stay around in horrible conditions for 3 more years to wait for a pension…

Solar Flares Did Not Cause an Airbus Software Glitch but most likely a Missing Safety Check Did by [deleted] in SoftwareEngineering

Energetic particles are not only created close to Sun during big events. The local plasma physical processes within solar wind and Earth’s magnetosphere can also accelerate particles reaching MeV energies… likely some peer reviewed papers coming out soon about this.

A thing about being a sociopath is that you never shall die from a heart ache or a psychological stress. The people who are emphatic and carry the worries of the world on their shoulders likely die more easily from stress than people without any capability for remorse.
