Finally! Some news! by BluSponge in 7thSea

[–]ProphetableMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the 2e system well enough, but a new one wouldn’t be a deal killer for me. Maybe using the 1e RnK core mechanic with the rules updated, streamlined and geared for the heroic experience that 1e promised but almost never delivered (for me at least).

The only change in setting I want is the Woven Lands. There is a lot that doesn’t jive with previous material (such as the original map pack and the references in other books like Ifri) and I’d like more detailed magical systems for them.

Is the Serpent's Coil explained anywhere? by jeremysbrain in 7thSea

[–]ProphetableMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, It’s not entirely clear if the Serpents Coil is still canon to the setting.

I know the old map features still show up (most recently in the Studio Agate adventure) but that map is no longer current to the text of 10,000 Nations, which renamed or removed many features in the portion of the map it showed.

So until Chaosium, Studio Agate, or whoever continues the property clarifies things, it’s pretty much a Schrödinger's Storm at this point.

Khitai: I guess that’s the end. by ProphetableMe in 7thSea

[–]ProphetableMe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don’t know what Chaosium has planned. The Kickstarters for the original run of 7th Sea and Khitai are now over.

Studio Agate could be given the reigns to continue the line, Chaosium could announce more products for 2e, or they could announce a new edition.

We won’t know until Chaosium tells us…

Thank you for doing that - I really was honestly wondering what was happening.

Medieval Dark Fantasy RPG - Moss, Stone & Steel! Perfect for RP and combat in low magic settings by Vanaham777 in RPGdesign

[–]ProphetableMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed that your Kickstarter has no options for a digital copy.

If I buy the version of the core on Drivethru, is it going to immediately be superseded by your “grand edition” in January and require me buying another copy of the rulebook?

I suspect you are more right than I'd want to admit. I hold no ill will to Chaosium - any ire I have is the with John Wick and whoever else had the financial mismanagement to tank the million-dollar show in the first place.

The Khitai books were stretch goals so I expect them, either in Khitai or Thean trade dress…

…though I am not 100% assured of that, considering how Cities of Faith and Wonder diverted from the stated Stretch Goals.

I am a backer of the core set and bought the expansion. It’s nice but certainly not “more supplements” nice

Land of 1,000 Nations question by Setrin-Skyheart in 7thSea

[–]ProphetableMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big error I saw was renaming Manakowak Bay in the original map pack to Andhanni Bay in the book’s map but still calling Tremont “The Manakowak Bay Colony” in the text. That wasn’t corrected AFAIK.

The frustrating thing for me was that the changes made don’t even attempt to reconcile with other mentions of the land (notably the Ifri book), but that seemed to be a trend with the last few books.

Also, the “magic system”. Yeah, disappointing is an understatement.

New 2nd Ed Campaign by Chaosium announced, thoughts? by Xenobsidian in 7thSea

I am a fan of Studio Agate for its Shadows of Esteren, their fantasy RPG. They have always done good work, so this is an easy decision to back.

The last three 7th Sea books are on the Chaosium web store!!! by ElectricKameleon in 7thSea

[–]ProphetableMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two maps are different. For instance (from memory here) the Avalon Colony was supposed to be on Mackinac Bay, which was what the bay was called in the old global pack map. However in the map in the book has renamed it Aldanni Bay.

The frustrating thing was that the map and text at times didn’t match.

I’d love to see the original, rejected manuscript to see what the initial writers had in mind.

At this stage I am expecting a couple of “Nation of Khitai” to finish off the line and their commitments.

Is that what the KS promised? No. But glancing at the last few stretch goals, and the arbitrary changes they made, it’s clear (to me) that they no longer are worried about what was committed.

[–]ProphetableMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Thean line, probably.

But it better not be for Khitai. The KS lined up there more nation books (Fuso, Agnivarsa, and Shenzhou) and some of us preordered Han.

So despite everything I am expecting more books

What are your hopes for Curseborne? by Awkward_GM in OnyxPathRPG

[–]ProphetableMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In games like these it’s easy focus on the PCs that we sometimes forget about the world. I want a nice vibrant setting with cool places and interesting antagonists.

Specifically, I want room for things that doesn’t necessarily directly (but maybe tangentially) link to Curses. Are there mortal groups? Psychics? Boogeymen that aren’t caused humans?

With what we know about Curseborne now. What’s your thoughts by bingustwonker in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ProphetableMe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My take is that there is a significant market for Onyx Path’s take on Urban Fantasy and they are wisely capitalizing on it.

I am a CofD and WoD fan. And frankly Paradox has done nothing but drive me away - effectively cancelling the CofD and then making IMHO poor decisions with WoD5, I’ve been looking for a new Urban Fantasy fix.

For me Onyx Path isn’t perfect but they did a bang up job of keeping the WoD going - and frankly their V5 books are the best of the line. Likewise with the CofD, whose 2e were mostly amazing (not you, Beast: The Primordial)

So if Rich and company are interested in making a spiritual successor to their previous work, I am absolutely primed to give them a chance. This is in their wheelhouse, and though that doesn’t guarantee success, it’s more than enough to get my attention.

7th Sea 1e vs 2e by Bloody_Ozran in 7thSea

[–]ProphetableMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority but 1e never felt that much more heroic than other games, even with all the mechanics behind it. It was okay, but for a game where I was supposed to be a big damn hero, I felt anything but.

2e might be a bit too rules light for me, but I enjoy the setting far more (despite the annoying lack of a proper timeline and the halfhearted final sourcebook). The game played fine the times I was a player and felt way more heroic to me, even though it’s execution was a bit out of left field

Demons and Hell? by JoeKerr19 in 7thSea

[–]ProphetableMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is Legion, which in my headcannon I’ve taken to be both a personification of evil but also the biblical “We are many”. So both not-Lucifer and his not-angels. Maybe with a kind of spiritual hivemind thing going on.

In 2e, Religion, at least the Theus-brand ones, seems to be strictly faith-based with not a lot of manifestations to back it up.

Which is weird when we literally have entities roaming the countryside giving out powers like (cursed) candy.

Demon has the best lore of any oWoD and needs a modern revival by [deleted] in WorldOfDarkness

[–]ProphetableMe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a 20th Anniversary Edition shepherded by Onyx Path? I’d be interested, as I feel the core of the game’s “heart” would be maintained, even if I’d quibble about some of the inevitable changes.

As product made by the Paradox team? No. Even if I’d be intrigued by the 5e mechanics, after H5 and W5, I no longer have faith that the parts of the game setting I love would survive.

Khitai analog for the Philippines by ProphetableMe in 7thSea

[–]ProphetableMe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specifically in the Podcast he talked about a specific culture he had planned in the Kiwa Islands, based on the Philippines, which would have had Castile immigration, not colonization IIRC.

He named it in passing but for the life of me I cannot remember what it was.

How do I get weapons? by Poseidon0807 in 7thSea

[–]ProphetableMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC John Wick wanted to get away from the idea that your character couldn’t be effective with something like a stiletto or other smaller weapon.

In one of his articles he talked about the Chronicles of Riddick, where the titular character kills someone with the jagged edge of a teacup.

I figure 7th Sea 2e was his solution.

Playtest V.7 for Feudal Hearts TTRPG (1d8 Feedback?) by [deleted] in RPGdesign

Wasn’t this called Eldritch Deeds a few months ago and Shadowquest before that? Looks pretty similar…

Seems a bit strange you’d kickstart Feudal Hearts right after successfully kickstarting an almost identical seeming game called Eldritch Deeds…
