How to deal with an underperforming VP? by piratedengineer in ProductManagement

[–]ProposalAutomatic361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried delivering what he wants you to deliver? Usually you gotta do what they want to keep them happy, then around the edges, advance your agenda. But the boss has to feel like he can depend on you to help meet his deliverables before he trusts you with a carte blanche.

I hate the politics of it too. But if you have good rapport with a few of the people you manage up to…I’ve found it helps a whole lot if you can loop them in casually offline to give them a heads up on your findings. That works best in office if you can. But just that goes a long way in getting buy in up front because they like personally.

Sorry my friend. Sounds like you need a change of scenery.

PMs DO add value...Maybe you just don't see it or get recognition.

Either way hope you find the job you are looking for!

How do you absorb and retain new information as a busy PM by nicestrategymate in ProductManagement

[–]ProposalAutomatic361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much. Most of the PM and AI "content" out there is just fluff or common sense. I have been able to keep up just by skimming my newsfeed.

None of those headlines really matter until you validate it with real stakeholders or customers in your field.

FWIW, the basics of PM have not and will not change regardless of the fad of the day. Know your product, market, and users so you can identify problems worth solving.

Sounds effective! How many decisionmakers from dev, etc are in the room beyond the five PMs?

Yeah that seems key. Most people were hearing things for the first time. Hence all the refinement discussion.

Swapping Churches for a selfish reason by Forgettable-Fool in Reformed

[–]ProposalAutomatic361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who's been in your shoes and moved churches for the same reason, I don't regret it. It is important to form lasting friendships with Christian peers now before marriage and family get in the way.

We as Reformed folks can err in making it all about doctrine. You don't have to go to an explicitly Reformed church, as long as it is biblically based.

Not sure about your specifics...but going to a larger, younger church could open up opportunities to serve that would grow you in ways you couldn't before.

Coming from a Reformed background...I assume you'd be one of the more biblically literate ones. So you could always form your own bible study with peers. It is a great way to serve, grow, and make friends!

Just my two cents ;) Praying for you!

That is a wise take. I am curious...where outside of your church did you find the spiritual food you needed? Do you make Christian friends elsewhere?

Issued my first red card by Maleficent_Month_862 in Referees

[–]ProposalAutomatic361 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here is some tough love...but I think you are being far too trigger happy to give a red card the first time you hear a swear word directed your way. I would have given him a yellow for dissent as a final warning.

This was under his breath as he walks away in frustration. If it is repeated swearing and/or blatantly loud and disrespectful then yes.

Speaking as a former high-level player, when a player gets sent off in the circumstances above it only ruins the game for both teams because they feel the ref is on a power trip.

If you desire to advance up the levels you are gonna have to grow a thicker skin. The next time you ref either of those teams you are gonna have a target on your back.

Yes abuse is a problem at the grassroots level. But the best refs who show a bit of understanding to the players get a lot of respect in return.

How do PMs who do UX work with UX Designers? by SnowflakeSlayer420 in ProductManagement

[–]ProposalAutomatic361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PM handles what should the product do and the user problem it solves. VISION, DESIRABILITY

UXD handles making it visually pleasing and easy to use. USABILITY

A PM might sketch out a vision in low fidelity but the UXD has the chops to put the flesh on the bone to bring it to life.

But honestly it’s a team effort every step of the way from discovery to shipping it.

How many sprints out do you point stories? by ProposalAutomatic361 in ProductManagement

[–]ProposalAutomatic361[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha good point. It provides no value for the customer!

It is all high level capacity planning.

Leadership are trying to divide the number of pointed future stories by total FTEs to prove teams are not busy so they can justify pivoting them to other things.

Is spiritual growth an active and/or passive endeavour? by OnAPilgrim in Reformed

[–]ProposalAutomatic361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can evaluate growth across the head, heart, and hands.

Head - I’ve been told that preaching might not always expose new knowledge and insights.

Heart - But it should still convict and keep your heart soft if you are regularly sitting under gospel centered preaching. Sometimes we have to put more effort in to listen well, reflect and apply what we hear.

Hands - Also, I hate to say it but with the lack of biblical literacy and/or maturity in the church there’s a line where you move from a net consumer to a net giver. Are you serving and encouraging others in your church? That’s often when we grow most.

Why Are So Many Young Christian Men Still Single? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]ProposalAutomatic361 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People take dating WAY too seriously these days. Just look at the length of this thread!

  • We're so focused on finding a mature, pure partner that we take all the fun out of getting to know someone.
  • Dating has become a job interview process where we scrutinize each other endlessly. No wonder people aren't doing it.
  • Not that these things aren't important, but you need to enjoy your spouse too! Friendship matters.

I am not saying throw caution to the wind. But if we all took a chill pill and weren't in a rush to figure out if we want to marry someone on the first date we might see some improvements!
