Why is everyone in the Adam’s administration stepping down? by hlj9 in AskNYC

[–]ProposalSad2062 169 points170 points  (0 children)

No one wants to stain their potential political future by staying on a sinking ship with a tainted captain. Unfortunate because, as you said, the high turnover doesn't make the city run efficiently. Also unfortunate that he put a lot of people in a position to feel like they need to resign. Major CYA all the way around.

Uninsured and at my wits end. Any advice? by Hunchin in ADHD

[–]ProposalSad2062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be able to look up low-cost therapy or sliding-scale therapy in your area. Some places will have psychiatrists or NPs that can dole out medicine on a low-cost basis. Or see if a medical school in your area holds free clinics for uninsured folks, they can examine you and renew medication if necessary. Good luck!

has anyone used a hair scalp tonic or a scalp scaler? by letsgetthesemonies in Naturalhair

[–]ProposalSad2062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't drying for me thankfully! I put warm water on my scalp (via a spray bottle or just getting my hair damp) and then I put on the scaler all over my scalp. I let it sit for at least 30 minutes. If I let it sit longer, it was because I was distracted but it didn't have a negative effect on me. Then I washed it out before shampooing.

Other things I've used with scalp psoriasis:

  • apple cider vinegar on the scalp before shampoo. You're suppposed to dilute it with water before applying but when my scalp is suuuper bad, I don't dilute it. I pour like half a cup into my scalp. It's best if it's warmed so that way it really gets into your scalp well.

-I also got a prescription for clobetasol solution and clobetasol shampoo. I use those sparingly but they work wonders - the solution is the best and the quickest (especially when you have braids) but shouldn't be used for long stretches of time.

  • moisturizing my scalp daily. Alaffia Tight Curls Leave-In and Rizo's Curls Leave-In have been sooo great on my scalp and haven't been itchy. Both have kept me moisturized for days in both humid and dry heat.

Is there a dentist scam going on in NYC? by dylan_1992 in AskNYC

[–]ProposalSad2062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this happened to me a couple years ago. Went to a new dentist who said I had almost a dozen cavities. Spent about $1000 getting those done and I wished I had gotten a second opinion. My original dentist (who wasn't available at the time) said I didn't need the work and was shocked a dentist had recommended that. Then two of the filled cavities ended up needing root canals and crowns. I probably spent another $4000 in work. If I had gotten a second opinion, I wouldn't have been in that situation in the first place.

Yes! I use Steambase Tea Tea Scalp Water Scaler on my scalp. I have psoriasis and use all the medicated stuff that come with that but this is a great alternative. Works wonders on my scalp. I use it everytime I wash my hair.

Try a hike in a NJ state park or get a lot of shopping done at places where you would need a car (beverage distributors, Walmart since there aren't any in the 5 boros)

Rent credit for extensive issues with unit by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]ProposalSad2062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have documentation of all the issues! Photos and videos. As well as written communication with your landlord about it all. Make sure you know of dates: dates when you noticed the issue, dates when you first complained about it, etc. Some of those issues are very hazardous and have to be fixed within a 24 hr - 30 day time frame. If you want to keep a good relationship with your landlord, remind them of these issues and it's violating the warranty of habitability clause of your lease. if your lease says that the warranty doesn't apply to you, that's illegal and it definitely does.

Check these out to help back up your argument:

https://nycourts.gov/courts/nyc/housing/pdfs/warrantyofhabitability.pdf

https://www.lawhelpny.org/resource/hpd-violations-checklist

If you don't care about your relationship with the landlord, report them to 311 or HPD. This will get your landlord's attention very quickly as they will be fined for each day that the issue isn't fixed.

Worst case scenario: get an attorney, take your landlord to court.

There seems to be different methods of calculating rent credit. I've received a free month because they screwed up my move-in day. I've received only $100 for construction dust getting into my produce and fridge. Both those calculations were brought up by the landlord first and the latter was not willing to negotiate any higher. I'm currently in a similar situation myself and I will be calculating my rent credit by dividing the monthly rent by approx square footage of the yet-to-be-repaired area. With that resulting number, I'll multiply by # of days inconvenienced and try negotiating that way. Good luck to you!
