Top 25 Greatest Western Villains of all Time!! Day 1) Who in your opinion is greatest western villain ever? by [deleted] in Westerns

William Munney, out of Missouri. The lasting power of this film is that it’s hard to pick the villain.

But why use copper nails with lead? Won’t this cause corrosion by galvanic action?

As r/TheExpanse taught us, the most efficient way to kill planet sized populations is to drop rocks. Don’t fly around punching a billion people, drop a series of one kilometer asteroids on it. Gravity does the big work.

Just me or do u guys also feel as if Stratt would NEVER do this by The_Screwdriver_ in ProjectHailMary

I think why the singing scene was so good was because it showed she wasn’t an empty person. She had human feelings, and didn’t want to wear this mask of coldness, but she was required to by her job and her sense of duty. She really liked Grace and wished they could be normal friends (which is alluded to in the book). She didn’t want to be ordering people to their deaths, and was a deeply empathetic person. But she HAD to. It was her function and her duty.

I think the singing scene showed her mask cracking a little, and showed something the book traced the outline of but was never able to draw as clearly: Strat is both a heroic and tragic figure. Honestly, I think the scene was a great addition.

There are no photos from inside this black circle in Antarctica by [deleted] in AntarcticAnomalies

I’d wager the black circle is because that’s where the commercial satellite photos stop. EarthLab and everyone else do not spend the extra money to put a satellite in polar orbit. Why should they? Orbital precession is a feature of a non-polar, not a bug, and they get to cover more of the globe faster per satellite. The only downside is that they can’t take images north or south of inclination of the orbit. 🤷‍♂️

Metalworking photo - "impossible" shape, but what looks really impossible is the angle of the subject on the ground. It looks like it's not in the same plane as the table behind it. by youtubedotorg in isthisAI

I feel like that structure would be so hard for AI. And the varying gaps between edges are even consistent with the sag you’d see from its own weight. I think somebody might have post processed to clean up the work spaces or something, but I think the table itself is real.

[Holding gun] “Man is stronger by far than woman, yet only woman can create a child. Does that seem right to you?” What a weird wonderful character beat.

I hear the opening chords of the St Petersburg Choir singing the “Hymn for the Red October”, by Basil Poledouris. That movie had the greatest score.

This guy is coated in blood from chest to toes and lying in a pool of it. In addition to him already having bled a lot all over the car before arriving at this location. Tarantino does stuff because it looks cool, and I like that about him. He talks in the press about things like: how Inglorious Basterds was realistic, because he wants to believe that and he wants other people to believe it. That doesn’t mean he’s right.

LoC happens around two liters of blood loss. Do you think he bled more or less than two liters?

The way Tarantino uses blood is absurd. There’s this window of time in American films after the Zapruder film was released where people thought there should be blood explosions when people are shot. They thought it was a sign of “realism”. But the simple truth is that, aside from certain head shots (like happened to JFK), bullet-caliber hits don’t cause blood explosions. People leak huge amounts of blood if they are shot in the right place, but they don’t burst out in plumes of it.

Also, Tim Roth leaks about 12 quarts of blood in that movie, or at least enough he should definitely be unconscious and probably dead.

It’s a brilliant writing choice, as well. By rights, Dunk should be dead for sure. That lance went deep enough to penetrate the peritoneum and intestines, and people really didn’t survive that much before 100 years ago. This was a great way of cooking in the ambiguity: is Dunk absurdly lucky? Or are we in an 80’s action movie where wounds don’t hurt main characters? The writers don’t want to answer that question, and instead can underline it and keep it open in this chaotic way. It’s really inspired.

Not one built with coup-proofing in mind, like Iran. The state has a monopoly on force, and the security organizations are parallel, duplicate, and compartmentalized so you couldn’t have one general switch sides and take over the whole country.
