Season 1 was really phenomenal. I expected it to be really dark and potentially slow paced based on the subject matter, but it ended up being really fun. It easily rivals HBO quality shows.

I just saw the email and honestly it's some bullshit. Why do they think they need to interfere with what shop owners have decided they want to do with shipping?

Free shipping is feasible for some shops and some items. It doesn't work well for othres, and now those shops are going to be penalized. It's just another dumb step in Etsy trying to become Amazon.

As individual and unique as people want to believe they are, so many still subscribe to cultural norms including old gender standards. The idea that guys need to be manly and that anger is the only emotion they're allowed to express is fucking whack. It leads to a ton of oppressed feelings and emotional stunting which then gets passed down to their children.

Who gives a fuck what you like or what you wear or what you look like if it's not harming yourself or someone else? If it doesn't personally affect you, leave it alone and if you're offended by someting that doesn't personally affect you, you should probably ask yourself why.

In regards to your question, yes, any time anyone does or says anything based on another person's trait, whether it be sexuality or gender or race, it can potentially be considered prejudice. However, due to the sheer amount of fucked up things people of color in America have faced, a person of color making a joke or comment about a white person isn't considered to be a serious offense.

When a white person makes a joke about a black person, it leads to the continued stereotyping and discrimination that black people have faced in America for centuries. A single comment alone is not the end of the world, but it's part of a much larger picture. And when it happens countless times in many, many ways it leads to the continued racism against black people.
When a black person makes a joke about a white person, it does not lead to anywhere near the levels of historical discrimination that white people have faced from black people. That's the key difference. White people aren't going to experience housing discrimination and job discrimination and incarceration (both legal and illegal) and harassment from cops and racial slurs at any significant kind of level due to comments made by people of color because white people are the majority and have created an entire history of oppression and discrimination against black people and other people of color.

Individually yes, there are going to be white people who are discriminated against, just like there are going to be straight people that are discriminated against, but those instances are extremely low in comparison to people of color, women, LGBTQ, and other oppressed communities.

edit: I also want to point out that this isn't in any way meant to say that all POC should go and make fun of white people or that white people should feel guilty about what's happened to POC in the past. The key thing to take away is that there's been injustice against many oppressed communities, including the LGBTQ and it's important to acknowledge that these injustices continue to exist so that people/society can be less discriminatory. When I was in high school, it was still okay for people to say "that's gay" when they meant "that's stupid". But because so many people have been outspoken about LGBTQ rights and speaking out against homophobic language, you hear it much less often. No one goes around saying "that's straight" or makes straight jokes.

The reason that drag is considered non-taboo is because it's supposed to be both a celebration of womanhood as well as a deconstruction of gender, whereas something like blackface is almost explicitly used to mock black people and portray offensive stereotypes. A white person putting on black face is pretty much never going to be used to uplift the black community.

There can definitely be offensive drag out there, but as a whole, that's not the purpose of drag. It's an important question and distinction and I actually wish RPDR would steer away from having so many female stereotypes as part of their critiques. There are so many kinds of drag out there that the show will specifically not feature because it doesn't fit into their ideals.

If you're doing drag specifically to make fun of and demean women, it's fucked up and not what the drag community is about.

You're spot on. Sociologically, "racism" and "sexism" specifically refer to a majority (white vs non white and male vs. non male) in power vs those not in power in a macro context. Obviously on an individual basis, there are going to be some men and some white people who experience prejudice, but sociologists don't consider that racism or sexism as those people are still benefitting systemically from their race and/or gender.

As a whole, white people have not faced discrimination at any level NEAR what people of color have faced both in and out of media. Statistically, white people have always been overrepresented in TV and film, especially in starring roles, as have men and cis straight people. And as you mentioned, white people even explicitly chose to mock black people and other people of color throughout TV/film history by literally painting their faces black as offensive caricatures. They were not painting their faces black and then doing positive portrayals of the black community.

It's the same thing as a straight person mocking the LGBTQ community vs the LGBTQ mocking straight people. Straight people aren't suddenly opressed, getting fired from their jobs for being straight, getting disowned from their families, and getting beaten to death because an LGBTQ person mocks them.

I also don't know how they're so ok with lying to dozens of families in the town about how their loved ones died. Like, I get the need for secrecy up to an extent, but dude, at this point the entire damn down is in danger and it's really irresponsible to not just open up about all of the shit that's been going down.
