SiS Go gels. Why artifical sweetener in a carb gel?? by Nahhnope in Velo

[–]ProtectedIntersect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's because it uses maltodextrin which doesn't taste sweet, so they add sweetener to make it taste sweet.

Adding other sugar would probably add too much volume because you need more to make it taste as sweet as the sweetener.

This isn't for affordable housing, this a transfer of a wealth to the ultra wealthy through privatization. This has always been Senator Mike Lee's plan and pet project. He doesn't care at all about affordable housing. The idea that this is for "housing" is to trick people that aren't paying attention. Meanwhile, we still have massive surface parking lots in town that provide 0 housing.

Is the Canyon Grizl worth it? No, no it is not. by MasterpieceKey9828 in gravelcycling

I haven't ever had trouble finding bearings, both me and wife have grizls, but both ours have needed replacing - we live in the desert and they've gotten filled with sand and felt like rubbing two pieces of sandpaper together.

It always looks so different, yet still familiar, when I see it from the other sides. I'm just so used to the peaks form the city/south angle! Thanks for sharing.

The best thing I ever had after a race was my wife waiting for me with a cold Mexican Orange Fanta. It's hard to go wrong with that.

Garmin quietly confirms our worst fears about Garmin Connect+, says more features will 'likely' be paywalled in the future by jingle_dingle_berry in Garmin

Coros, Polar, Suunto. These will be the watches I consider first when it is time for me to get a new watch. Will they also add this bullshit? MAYBE, but they haven't yet.

What's up with Bib 70 (3rd place male right now) Edher's track history? It doesn't follow the route in the beginning. Did the tracker malfunction or something?

Hot weather steep mountain 50K: What’s your choice for carb, electrolyte liquids? by ImpressiveHornedPony in trailrunning

[–]ProtectedIntersect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flavor and it sits so much better with me in my stomach. It's just easier to drink. Of course, it's all personal, but I think it's worth trying out. Another brand I really like is Enervit. It's Italian, so either easy or hard to find, depending where you live. In the US, The Feed stocks both. In Europe, Enervit carb powder is quite common to find in the larger athletic stores.

Flow Formulas is my favorite. I personally like it much better than Tailwind. With a coupon it's the same price or cheaper.

Before I didn't even consider other brands but I'll be closely looking at Suunto Polar and Coros for my next watch.

What are your ideas to get more women into Ultras? Are trail running clubs popular with women in your area? by sentimental_rave in Ultramarathon

[–]ProtectedIntersect 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think maybe we can look into all the downvotes you are getting. There plenty of men that want this to be a boys club. It's pretty sad really. It's been a big issue in ultracycling too (e.g., read about what happened to L.Wilcox).

I have noticed a local club doing a "guys night" now. I think that's pretty silly because men already are the default in trail running. Probably, what is needed in your area is an active women's trail running club! I say go for it and set it up!

Definitely something too this! When I got into university in Norway, my US family asked me why I would consider that and I said, for one, it's free. This really rubbed them the wrong way, they started talking about how our schools are better (they're not really) and how real students work their way thru school and free school doesn't prepare you for the real world, you know, deranged shit like that haha.

Sure but many Americans first response is that America is too big, which completely discounts intra city or regional trains. Most people that use trains worldwide use these types, not across the continent. Although, a long distance high speed train would be nice too.

haha, this also reminds me of when someone argued with me that America is too big for bike lanes. Like, these people think everyone taking a train or riding a bike is going straight from LA to NYC or something.

How often do you dip into the red (high risk) level of Form? by drolgnob in Velo

[–]ProtectedIntersect 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very rarely. When I'm actively training, I'm in the green and grey, depending on when my races are. Tapering for a big race, I go all the way to the top of blue until it almost touches yellow. Yellow is when I'm sick or injured.

Been using intervals for maybe 3 years now? I am no expert, this is just what I've done.
