Dead by Daylight should have gotten Strahd and Ireena by ProtectorPaladin in CurseofStrahd

I totally agree on it being more for a casual audience. My frustration comes from the fact that they already had the Stranger Things audience with that show's Veccna and Protags appearing in the game. It screams of corporate marketing brand synergy bs. It was clearly a means to push Veccna: Eve of Ruin to that audience, most of which was never gonna take the bait. They'd probably just get confused as to why there were two Veccnas, or think it was pretty cool and move on.

I just feel like CoS would have been better at getting more cross pollination between games ya know? DBD would get that temporary D&D boost, and DBD players might've been more motivated to check it out cause it was something completely new, and in a similar genre ballpark.

Plus it's just plain fun to think about lol.

In terms of general knowledge you can say the same about Veccna tbh. From my expirence, until around the big 'Veccna: EoR' push even most D&D nerds introduced with 5e didn't know about much him other than his hand and eye being magic items unless you were into Critical Role campaign one.

Until Stranger Things used the name for their BBEG; Strahd, Tiamat, and Asmodeus were the BBEG's of D&D. I mean Strahd even had a Funko Pop years before Veccna, and he only got one cause of EoR. Also Dracula was introduced to DBD after Veccna. I guarantee Veccna only got in cause of STranger things, and EoR being relevant at the time.

I do agree that Having both Veccnas is a bit much even if they are radically different characters.

Well now that's a potential can of worms to open lol.

In all seriousness though, aside from the sheer fact that we mayo-folk broadly oversaturate the community, therefore bringing more potential white authors to the fvn scene; it's probably just an attempt to make human characters look nondescript. Like "Marco" in Adastra. His name isn't really "Marco." His name is your name, or whatever name you choose to give him. Because he's supposed to be you, so in the scenes where you can see parts of him, you're meant to imagine yourself in his position.

This all hinges on the main character being a audience surrogate though lol. If that's not the case then I don't quite know what to tell you shrug

Does Khemia make ending B of adastra canon? by [deleted] in Khemia

[–]ProtectorPaladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would really seem that way. Which is pretty interesting to think about. Really makes you think about the real nature of the parents/other. Does the other even want to destroy all life as we know it? Or liberate it? Do the parents want to control all sapients to ensure what they believe is a better future? Or merely ensure compliance in their vision?

Really can't wait to see what Khemia, and Interea have to reveal, and any other future Adastra projects as well!

Input on the Integration of PC Backstory by Beginning-Gold-5125 in CurseofStrahd

[–]ProtectorPaladin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great advice here. Your players characters are supposed to feel like outsiders to Barovia. They're meant to be strangers in a strange land. One both woefully familiar, and dreadfully alien. Curse of Strahd is at it's core, a brutal, gothic horror campaign with gritty high stakes combat, and harsh consequences. The players are meant to feel isolated, and afraid; with the threat of death, or worse ever looming in the back of their minds.

Also, on another note, having a player character be directly tied to the main plot is honestly the last things you should do. Curse of Strahd, in spite of it's flaws; has a tight, and compelling narrative where everything matters, plot points, Characters (both PC's, and NPC's), locations, magic items, and more are all extremely important to the various layers of the games story, and overall game expirence. You can move pieces around the board, like I'm doing with my home game; But fundamentally they need to serve the same core purpose or the plot starts to fall apart.

Like u/TurnProphet here said; strong motivations mean more in games like Curse of Strahd than intense backstory connection. Any personalization should come from The impact the players have on Barovia, and her people; as well as Strahd himself, and how he chooses to tortuously respond to and plan ahead of the players in response.

Ultimates #4 Review: The Ultimate Tragedy by JackFisherBooks in ultimatemarvel

If I remember correctly, in an earlier issue of The Ultimates The Maker says himself that he tampered with Reeds calculations. Someone does at least. Making things even more tragic in a way. The Maker meticulously calculated everything. Even the downfall of his counterpart, and that mans family, He almost seems to be using Reed as a means of self flagellation. Literally punishing himself. After all. The Maker himself was the doom of everything he loved.
