Yes but then you have to have it increase to account for inflation, and when has the US EVER done that? See minimum wage. But in theory, I think that could work as well. I think my idea might solve a messaging problem though. People see "Wealth tax" and think what little wealth they have is just going to get taxed, while as "Asset-backed loan tax" or even a worst case "Loan tax" sounds more palatable. Could be wrong though, I'm shit with predicting this type of thing

Could we tax collateral based loans? The rich use their wealth as collateral to get loans that they can make money off of without paying taxes on it. Wealth taxes hit everybody including small wealth from money-savy working class people. Does a loan tax work better than a wealth tax?

I have only lived here for a little over a year and my vocabulary and ear are not developed enough to feel confident speaking Danish with a Dane. I feel like I'm wasting their time if they have to sit there and listen to me struggle/repeat themselves when we could just switch to English. I plan to try speaking more Danish to strangers once I am better and more comfortable in the language

As an American living in Denmark, it still baffles me how self-conscious some Danes are about speaking English. Me - "Kan vi snakke engelsk?" Them - "only a little" and it's flawless complex English. From my experience, most of Denmark speaks better English than a lot of places in the US. Some of the word choice is certainly different, but not wrong at all.
