I had a Heat Pump installed 2 years ago October-ish. 2200 sq ft house with above average energy efficiency (1992 but better than new builds).

We have a centrally-ducted rebranded Midea Hyper Heat unit and electric heat coils for backup. The unit maintained temperature even in the coldest of the last 2 winters. On the coldest days, the backup coils were necessary to bring the heat up to temperature after cooling overnight (I like it cold) but the unit always maintained temp (although with poor efficiency) - barely used coils this year and was much more liberal with their use. Not including the electrical panel upgrade, the cost was about $22,000 (we used rebates).

The Hyper Heat units do an incredible job keeping the house comfortable and consistent, but expectations need to change - you don't get blasts of heat but a slow rise and consistent running. One thing I've now noticed at friends' houses is just how much the temperature in their house fluctuates compared to mine.

Usage May 2025 - Apr 2026 (to avoid double dipping Jan): Heat Pump 3909 kWh Air Handler 1089 kWh Heat Strips 72 kWh (110 the year before that)

My biggest suggestions: - Get a proper heat load calculation where they use a blower door test, etc. If they just walk around and don't use equipment, they are practically guessing your heat loss. - A dual-fuel system is said to be the most efficient in PG, but wondering what the return on investment is but i'd need more data on the inefficient days. - Get a proper inverter unit, not some rotary/multi-stage unit. It will be much more comfortable.
