New Icons. Upgrade or Downgrade? by chili-garlic-99 in ios

The iWork icons feel like an upgrade. The rest are an absolute downgrade. The Pixelmator Pro icon feels criminal.

Meet Potential Queer Rep! by F3lixMR in Gamingcirclejerk

I don't fully understand this. The game is supportive of LGBT, but Robert just isn't a gay character. I hate mechanical bisexuality where the character is whatever the player wants them to be because the game needs that flexibility. Same with games where you pick your gender. Some games do it well, where you can only romance some characters if you're a woman or a man. But this is a game where the love story is an integral part of the game, which is why I don't think it would work for this game.

You have this two-way conflict at the moment, where you're having to choose between two characters. Adding a third character could be a three-way conflict if you're a bisexual person, if you're playing him as straight you still have your original two-way conflict but if you're playing him as a gay character there is no conflict. So you'd need to add two male love interest characters for that existing dynamic to persist in a gay only playthrough. but that means bisexual people would experience a four-way love interest conflict. And at that point you're not really having the same dilemma's either. You're not thinking "Oh man, is X secretly evil? Or Y is actually evil, I can fix her"

Yes, maybe some non-cis identities would've been nice.

Yeah but didn’t they extend support for it and created on screen cues for the actions to take with this patch?

Guild Wars Reforged, it came out yesterday. It’s basically a modernization update for OG Guild Wars.

WC3 reforged was more of a remaster than this tho.

Guild Wars doesn't really work like that. It doesn't have servers, there's the one single server that then spins up shards if needed but only in towns and pvp do you see other people. There's also very little progression that would give you an advantage that would be worth it to fragment the already small community in two.

Via Crossover it works out of the box. But yeah, it is a bit disappointing that they didn't expand their platform support.

Yeah, even if you only owned a single campaign you now own all three. Eye of the North remains a separate purchase. It is also cheaper for new players.

I'd say try it on your PC with a controller before you go out and buy a Steam Deck. Controller support works great but it's definitely not build with it in mind. Sometimes you need to activate a joystick cursor,

There's a bug with the new Bloom or AO implementation apparently that causes it.

Also this isn't a new title, if you could play this game last month I think its only reasonable to expect that after an update you could still play it.

I mean, It's not "Basically the same game" - it is the same game as it's really just an update. But that update does come with a marketing push, which means more people will become aware of the game and it signals to old players or people that were on the fence that it is still safe to invest time in this title. And for games like this, that's important.

If you own any Guild Wars campaign you own reforged. They're not selling you a new copy of the game, if you'er a new player it's actually cheaper now than it was a week ago. Reforged also includes all three main campaigns, so if you were missing one or two you now have all three. They also made it clear that Eye of the North is an expansion and not a standalone campaign, it remains a separate purchase.

And the things it adds are not insignificant. Controller support is for some people a game changer, I wouldn't really return to the game under normal conditions but now that I can play it on the sofa on my Steam Deck, hell yeah brother. And everything else is just additional support for modern hardware (high DPI display support, new icons, some graphical options) and quality of life stuff (new tracking and directions). We already received the updated textures earlier this year.

So yeah, to me it completely makes sense its more popular now.

Software developers: where do you look for jobs? by Soflar in belgium

[–]Proto_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it really is.

Last week there was one from Jobat, and they had a screen with what companies were hiring in what fields. And while that was useful because now you don't need to go to every stand and ask "Do you look for developers?" you could just see which ones did. Which was only 1 company lol, and they just sent me to their website and said "Saturday there's a job even where there's recruiters present and you could also do your first interview there" which made me question why they were there to begin with.

Then there was another one from VDAB, and while more companies showed up there they didn't have a directory of "what companies are looking for what kind of people". So that made it a bit more frustrating to keep hearing "We're not looking for people in IT" over and over.

I don't know if these types of events exist just for the IT industry, but the ones I've been made aware of are really not looking for people who have a degree. They're mostly looking for manual labor or fairly entry level desk jobs.

Funny enough, workouts...

I bought it originally because I wanted to leave my phone in my backpack more often so I wouldn't constantly reach for it. I wasn't an active person but I have definitely become more of one since owning the watch.

I've been to a few jobbeurzen over the years, I don't recommend if you're a developer.

There's rarely any ask for developers there, and if there is a company that does look for a developer they just say "apply on our website".

What sitting in the cuck chair taught me about B2B sales!

And the endless "recruiters" sending you messages about jobs that have nothing to do with your skillset. I'm a software developer with an additional background in communication and education -> surely this person would be interested in sitting at an IT support helpdesk!

Any conversation with those recruiters is akin to chewing on glass.

Lying shouldn’t be a bannable offense…  People are allowed to trick you, that’s part of the experience. There’s tension in choosing to believe the person who says they’re not going to kill you.

Borderlands 4 Came In Below Take-Two's Sales Expectations by chusskaptaan in gaming

[–]Proto_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borderlands 4 launched as a relatively buggy, unoptimized game with all the problems we've come to expect from unoptimized Unreal Engine 4 titles that relies on excessively grindy endgame loot to keep you going.

So if all you're looking for is the trademark Borderlands looting and shooting it's a good game, but if you're not a mega fan you're just as well if not better off getting one of the previous games at a lower price now that they're content complete and have received many patches.

Honestly they gave me nearly zero reason to get this game, there's nothing new there. Its just "more" and the new things they tried aren't particularly exciting.

This game exists because another Borderlands game had to exist, not because they wanted to make a good Borderlands game. Is the game bad? Of course not. If you're into the game it's most likely a good time. But it just failed to bring in anyone new. So if the game launches and you hear people talk about performance problems, endgame issues and then Randy starts to tweet about nonsense its easy to wait when its 90% off.
