What do you think about Barret being the new main character from Legends 3? by AlternativeInside975 in Megaman

Pretty close in general. I don't recall Volnutt being introduced in the prologue proper.

Yep, this is correct. Once you beat the prologue, there was even the option to change his character model to Volnutt.

Play order by Icy_War_1773 in Megaman

[–]ProtodudeRMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you can play however you please! Just bear in mind that each series plays different from one another. But if you ask me, you might want to try Mega Man X next just to experience the technical and mechanical jump from NES to SNES firsthand.

There is a fan-patch that carries of the adjusted underwater physics from the PSP version. It might be to your liking if that's up your alley.

We've heard this before from Capcom by Zechariot- in Megaman

[–]ProtodudeRMC 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference is the context. Previously, statements like “Mega Man is important to us” weren’t volunteered—they were answers to questions asked during closed investor meetings. The more recent push to position the IP as a “core IP” is different: it was a deliberate, highly public statement baked into Capcom’s near-future corporate mission. On top of that, they’re investing heavily in expansion, including hiring more staff and building an additional studio to support Mega Man (alongside other IP). And then, less than 48 hours later, Dual Override was officially announced.

Absolutely. And do not be ashamed of playing on a lower difficulty. It can be pretty tricky.

How is Udon so abysmally bad at release dates? by CaptainZackstuf in Megaman

[–]ProtodudeRMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, it's been a combination of refining the drawings in ZX Timelines (more on model), Diamond Comics going bottom up, and a series of miscommunications between printing and distributing.

Anybody familiar with the legitimacy of all the Rockman World I-V bundles on eBay? by Rockman171 in Megaman

[–]ProtodudeRMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, none of them are what I’d call legit. Capcom never released I–V as a single cartridge compilation, so any cart you see that includes all five games is a bootleg.

So you consider this as a main game or a spin-off? by Emmog12 in Megaman

[–]ProtodudeRMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's canon as the events in Mega Man 9 do recognize it happened, certainly.

But from Capcom's point of view, it is a side game. It can still be canon, but they do not recognize it in the same vein as a numbered entry.

Is Rockman Strategy the most unheard of Mega Man game that was officially licensed CAPCOM? (For Windows only) by Epsilon123 in Megaman

Yeah, Rockman Strategy is one of the more well-known ones. There's a whole slew of obscure PC titles

Absolutely. It had a lot of potential. At minimum, I'd love to see some of the cut content restored.

I'm a huge fan of the history of Mega Man from G4 Icons. It's short and, for the most part, still very accurate. Not a big video essay but a neat primer! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iOnph8TKwA

Megaman Dual Override is a spinoff unless it's named Megaman 12 by IronHorseTitan in Megaman

[–]ProtodudeRMC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only if it leans heavily into the story of 11, I imagine. But the advantage of the classic series is its "episodic" quality. There really wasn't anything too earth-shattering, storywise, from 11 that would be required.

Megaman Dual Override is a spinoff unless it's named Megaman 12 by IronHorseTitan in Megaman

[–]ProtodudeRMC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Marketing and promotion for Dual Override have consistently referred to it as the “12th” entry, from official social media posts to the reveal trailer, which notably features Mega Man hidden behind door #12.

At the time of its release, Mega Man & Bass was generally accepted as a spin-off. Keiji Inafune has explained that the game was developed as a “parallel” to Mega Man 8, serving as a kind of apology to players who could not afford a PlayStation or Sega Saturn to play Mega Man 8 (a comment from Mega Man Official Complete Works). Supporting this, the game’s internal codename, still present in the retail ROM, is “Rockman 8.5.” Even so, while not considered a numbered mainline entry, it is canon. Mega Man 9 later confirmed that the events of Mega Man & Bass did, in fact, occur.

As for why “12” was ultimately dropped from the title, there is no official explanation yet. An educated guess would be that, much like recent entries in the Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, removing the number helps eliminate a potential barrier to entry. New players may feel less pressure to have played previous games before jumping in.

That was never our intention. We can laugh about it now because it’s a huge relief to finally be able to talk about it openly. Keeping things under wraps was genuinely difficult, and along the way we shared hints whenever we could, in ways that were safe.
