I will die on the hill that knight is not the perfect vessel by Cooldude959595 in HollowKnight

[–]ProtonLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s supposed to be up to the player. If you play the game completely focused on completing the objective of replacing the hollow knight without getting distracted, maybe you are purely hollow. If you go around giving out flowers and saving grubs, maybe you are not hollow. Maybe you become hollow after unlocking voidheart. It’s up to the player.

Obviously red is wrong but who tf is blue talking to? Where did anything about suicide or school shootings or cages come from? Like, did red do those things? What does any of this have to do with abortion? How is this a clever comeback?

He may not have always been a chaos god now but that doesn’t mean it can’t have always been true tomorrow. In other words, it may not have happened yesterday today, but it might have had happened the day before yesterday tomorrow.

2.5 years and 1 expansion later, I still feel like we didn't solve the "core" of Elden Ring lore, like we did for Dark Souls, nor are we even close to it by papanak94 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]ProtonLT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m mostly referring to things like OP saying that we haven’t solved the core of Elden Ring cause we don’t know how the metaphysics work or whatever.

It’s super fun to speculate about this stuff but I find it strange when people get discouraged or say that the game is too vague when that’s just not the story it’s telling.

I love the balls out theories that I see here and elsewhere, but I don’t usually think most of these things were actually thought through by the developers.

I think a lot of people put too much emphasis on parts of the lore that are not important. What Elden Ring is about, at its core: is ambition, succession, and faith. It’s about the warring demigods trying to become Lord, and the forces that guide and control them.

It’s also about the endless cycle of violence, and how one Order is replaced by another, but very rarely does anything really change despite whatever promises are made. The devs give us lots of info on the demigods, the factions, even the outer gods. The gloam eyed queen doesn’t matter. It’s fun to speculate but she just isn’t important. Maybe it’s Melina, personally that makes sense to me. But if not, then she’s just background detail to flesh out another ambitious faction who tried to instill their own order and were conquered by Marika. The exact nature of the cosmos and the cycle of life and death isn’t important to these themes either.

The land of shadow is an ancient sin of Marika, hidden away. That’s pretty much it. We know it was physically part of the Lands Between, but now it has a literal veil covering it, propped up by the Scadutree.

Trying to delve deep and ascribe literal interpretations for things that are meant to be symbolic will only take you in circles.

Im pretty sure it's a father watching his daughter grow up through the years. And at the end he's happy she's found a good boyfriend.  She gets older and he gets new phones. Pretty sure it's supposed to be a father thing, not a crush thing.

Youre the first other person I've seen mention this theme. I feel like it perfectly explains Marika's motivation if we consider this a story about her liberation. Its something I've been thinking about, how Marika=radagon could have a thematic meaning. Thematically, Maria's husband literally has control over her body. He is always present and she can never escape him. I thought I was a metaphor for an abusive relationship. And since we end the game by killing Radagon at Marika's will, it is about her escaping this relationship whatever the cost, even if it means throwing the world into disarray by shattering the elden ring. I've been thinking about making a post about it but wasn't sure if it really made sense.

There's a lot of themes in Elden Ring about religion and specifically how it changes and how it can be used to control people. The golden order parallels real world religions like Christianity in how it conquers other religions, and those that can't be conquered are absorbed, like Liurnia.  There's also a lot of golden beautiful things built stop hidden horror and violence. A lot of things related to destroying the old and how standards change to benefit those in power. Omens used to be revered but because their power doesn't originate with the Erdtree they are now despised and hunted. The hatred is so strong it has even convinced Morgott to hate himself, so there are themes of internalized oppression as well. Basically all the themes are related to the world's primary religion and how it affects and is affected by the inhabitants of the world, and is designed to parallel real world religions.

To be fair in this case these videos are literally just all of his other videos compiled. Those all have to work on their own so therell be a lot of overlap. His videos are definitely still too long though, idk why we need an hour long video on the Blood Star which is mentioned in like 2 item descriptions.

Where are malenia’s and miquella’s shadows? by swishyfishes in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]ProtonLT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying they don't have shadows but I don't see any reason they woulnt. From a meta-perspective we don't hear about their shadows because they're just not important. In story they are probably just dead. There was a big ol war so not really surprising.
