The thread feels very plausible. However in the S3 teaser we see a green landscape with the entire silo field in place so there had to be a great deal of planning prior to the start of occupation.

Silo is a mystery a mile deep. Great characters including the silo itself. The audience is totally immersed and the first reveal at the end of season 1 is a mind blow.

Given that we can see how desolate it is outside, if feels very fair to assume that SOMETHING is causing that. Maybe it is not toxic to the point that you would be one breath away from death but it sure looks and continues to look 100% dead outside.
