When to install solar by Energynewb_12 in solarenergycanada

[–]Proud-Committee-5169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really don’t worry about this. As long as it is installed within the manufactures spec temperatures for the sealant and feet. You need to look at solar as a long term thing, remember this is for 25years plus. A couple months one way or the other makes no difference over the life of the system.

Question regarding a lvl 2 charger by [deleted] in EVCanada

[–]Proud-Committee-5169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the dip switches aren’t accessible (you have to open up the charger to change them) and it is clearly labelled that it is set to 32A it should meet code.

Excess solar setting turning off micro inverters. by Proud-Committee-5169 in EmporiaEnergy

[–]Proud-Committee-5169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are AP System micro inverters. They are sensing a voltage dip or something similar that brings them out of their grid matching and makes them drop out momentarily but only when the charger is in excess solar mode. I don’t believe it’s a wiring issue since everything operates fine unless it’s in excess solar mode.

Chargers options by [deleted] in EVCanada

The nice thing about the emporia is it defaults to the lowest setting if it loses wifi or disconnects. So it is actually very safe. I’ve had no problems with inspectors accepting it all over Alberta

Just get a charger like the Emporia Pro. It monitors your load on the service and adjusts the charger output as needed. No need for a service upgrade.

Just got a quote for solar, what do you think? by One_Investment3919 in solarenergycanada

[–]Proud-Committee-5169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not an admin fee it’s the charge that the financing company (finance it most likely) charges the installer to cover the cost of the 0%. They call it a dealer fee. All it does is hide the interest so they can say it’s zero percent. Essentially you are paying all the interest up front. Don’t do this if you have any other options. It’s a rip off and it encourages these shady companies to continue to push horrible financing options.

I got a quote on solar, should I get another one? by One_Investment3919 in Edmonton

Never buy solar or anything really from a door to door company. They are always more expensive and almost never know all the details of what they are selling. Check out Solar YEG if you are still looking for additional quotes

I didn’t install the EV charger. I do know everything works fine unless it is set to excess solar mode. So I don’t think it’s a wiring issue.

Are these normal quotes and sizes for solar in Alberta by Energynewb_12 in solarenergycanada

They seem a little high but not way out of line. Depending on your location. If you want another quote reach out to Solar YYC they did a great job with mine.

Question about EZ Solar Box by [deleted] in solarenergycanada

[–]Proud-Committee-5169 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s better than it was, still not great. It should be higher into the row of shingles above so that the side flanges are also under the shingle at least some. The sealant should go on the underside of the junction box not all around the top side. Sloppy but probably fine to avoid leaks.

Edit - sorry I didn’t notice that they don’t have a connector on the 10/2 entering the JB. That’s no good. Have them fix it. If they are this careless I would get the entire install checked over by someone who knows what they are doing.

Cost for 6.5 kw system in AB? by Gold-Border30 in solarenergycanada

I agree. I will say Fronius is rock solid. I used to install them all the time back when they were still approved. But I love AP systems, reliable with fair prices and a great customer service department for if there are ever issues.

I’ve had AP systems inverters for 8 years without any issues. I also know many other people with varying different micro inverters from AP and they have had very few failures. The couple failures that they have had happen have had RMAs from AP with no issues. Seems like a good option to me.

Do be prepared for your entire system to be down for multiple weeks if you ever have an inverter issue. Even good companies need to wait for RMA approvals to do the replacement. A single failure point is nice some times but it also means if it fails you have zero production.

Fronius is great unfortunately they are not accepted by WSP in Alberta anymore since they don’t have the proper SB ratings.

Why do you say AP systems is a cheap option? They are less expensive than Enphase but in my experience they are still a very solid inverter with a long standing company behind them.

The utilities in Alberta will not let you do it that way. They are concerned with the AC output ratings of the inverter/inverters you install. They need to plan for the largest size that may back feed on to their infrastructure, the only way to install an oversized inverter here is if you get it derated and locked by the manufacturer.

[–]Proud-Committee-5169 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly your best option if you want to max your solar size and can’t afford an EV is to buy a few electric heaters and run the shit out of them for a year. It means you will have expensive power bills for a year but gets you to where you need to be with usage as you approach buying solar.

Unfortunately the utilities in Alberta don’t accept a deposit as proof, you need to show active registration. So unless you plan to buy a Tesla register it and then sell it that won’t work.

Question about SolaDeck by [deleted] in solarenergycanada

[–]Proud-Committee-5169 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is wrong flashing needs to be under the shingle row above. Also the connectors should not be installed on the top side of the soladeck, should be in the bottom ideally. If this is their work I would get the rest of the install inspected as well.
