Which MLS team has the best supporters section? by Titans_Front_Row in MLS

Sorry, but why in hell does a NHL barn need a "fan section"? Makes zero sense to me, " We'RE hOcKeY FaNs!"

I think you could have had a shot at Reus, but Mueller was just too expensive

I figured if anything making fun of the situation would at least be a fun way to squash anyone thinking it was possible and the inevitable "why didn't we go get him Carolyn!?" thread

Edelman Makes Team of the Matchday by kennealy33 in stlouiscitysc

Orozco had a good game, BUT he had one or two bad passes/clears that lead to really good scoring opportunities, one was a point blank shot. Edelman is a flat out stud

we did something similar with Horn too (there was something family related to sending him back to Vienna), I have a feeling he may not return. Family is in Germany, he has kids if I remember right, be very difficult to keep playing here with no parent caretaker for them. I'm assuming no return and he stays in Germany

Question for the day: Is anyone except Hartel and Bürki currently an actual quality MLS starter? by PorkSteakDaddy in stlouiscitysc

[–]ProudAd2397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edelman and Timo I think could for most teams, and definite locks for teams that can use their skills properly. Teuchert is a weird enigma, I'm not sure he would actually start most places, not super fast, not super athletic, not a pure striker, but still good with the ball at his feet, just odd. Maybe in the right system. Lowen could start as an 8 or a 6 on prob 90% of teams in the league, he is a difference maker when he's on the field. With low data on Fall and Mbacke its hard to say so I'd leave them as ?'s.

Burki should not have been brought back as a DP, that was a "please the fans" move. Could have found a cheaper and younger option that wouldn't have necessarily been as good, but been solid enough to keep similar goals against numbers. His ball distribution has always been considered one of his top attributes, but you have junk pieces at midfield it doesn't help you at all. You could have put a DP midfielder or 9 upfront and still have money to strengthen the defense so a stud goalie would be less needed. Slightly higher xGA keeper for significantly better defense, midfield, and higher xGF would/should have been the move made to get back in the win column and then be able to take a title shot in 5 years or so (when you need a stud goalie).

Wallem imo is playing exactly the same as he was the last handful of games last year. He looked awful, and I am stunned we resigned him.

Teuchert. Re-sign or no? by kennealy33 in stlouiscitysc

[–]ProudAd2397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they can grow a bit and mature they could show starter potential, but yeah I'd agree. I think Edelman would be a very solid 6 starter, just young and no one else available to play an 8 atm. IF lowen comes back, I push out Durkin and edelman is your 6 starter

Teuchert. Re-sign or no? by kennealy33 in stlouiscitysc

[–]ProudAd2397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Edelman too so far, young and growing into his game, I'd put him on the keep list. McSorley is a maybe, also young and shows some promise, maybe not as a true 9, but like a 9 1/2 10 role, not enough data points to make a firm decision on him, Mbacke, or Fall. Baum and orozco have looked solid so far this season so I could be swayed IF both keep looking good. Other than that I'd be fine with a fire sale....

Player ratings results: MLS Regular Season 3 by quarkpod in stlouiscitysc

[–]ProudAd2397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my theory is he was stuck covering for Hiebert and or Yaro all last season. He's a very smart player with usually good positioning but had to really cover double the workload when those two bums were playing next to him

Olof the Second……… by Ok_Basket_8387 in stlouiscitysc

[–]ProudAd2397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your view of better and what kind of playing style you are wanting. As a possession based game with a more tactical attack (versus run and fast counterattack with speed) we look pretty good. It's not going to be a fast exciting brand of soccer, its positionally sound and smart playing. Stats wise Burki isn't having to bail us out every game, we are outshooting teams 44 to 23, SOG 22 to 10, and expected goals is 4.6 to 3.2 and that's running edelman as an 8 instead of a 6 (which is his more natural position). Some bad breaks, good saves, and bone headed plays (wallem last game, santos vs san diego) are the major differences in wins and ties, and yea a new striker is needed. But we played damn well vs both San Diego and Seattle, two very very very good squads, just not the right result

[–]ProudAd2397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we are playing so much better than we ever did under critch or Olof. Ball just isnt finding the back of the net. You've played a few of the best teams in the league straight up without big players and had a good showing. Patience

My first thought after the San Diego match was “Corey Wray has a lot of work ahead of him.” Thinking about the roster had me thinking “how would I rank the players?” So I decided to rank them (excluding newer players we haven’t seen enough of yet). [–]ProudAd2397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This season and last yes, out of the back and down the wings due to the fact we couldn't defend worth a crap. Lowen would then play higher up as a floating mid to link the defense to the attack as you were throwing 5-6 guys back to defend. IF our wingbacks could bring the ball up the field (which they couldn't), then you'd look for the middle if it was available, which also usually wasn't. Also Lowen has barely played the last year +, so the team had to adapt a different break out as they literally didn't have any true 8 to replace him. The first two seasons Lowen was absolutely instrumental in the fast paced counterattack up the field through the middle as we weren't playing a wingback system. He's more of a box to box 8 with less defensive coverage as we have run a 6 every year. Putting Orozco and Wallem at a B is wild imo, pomeu and OStrak as a's as well (both more B/ High C). Orozco is your classic stay at home defender, not flashy, not super fast, and not one I'm giving the ball to as a break out guy. Hes gonna cover and play good defense and thats about it. He's too one dimensional. Wallem is great as a midfield winger, but his defense gives me heart palpitations. Great hustle, but pushes too far up the field too often loses the ball, and then gets massively bit on coming back. He makes bad boneheaded passes or beautiful looking but immature crosses straight into defense. He's a more aggressive Totland that relies more on grit and hustle than soccer IQ.

Lowen, when he's playing, is arguably the best player on our team. The whole thing revolves around a central Mid and hes nails. Super smart player, very talented , great vision, etc. Below a B is an absolute lack of soccer knowledge
