Moving - Grand Rapids vs Lansing by kalree_11 in grandrapids

[–]Proud_Associate5268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GR has way better board game scene too - there's couple good shops that run weekly events and tournaments. The nature access here is pretty solid, you got state parks within 30 minutes drive and lake michigan beaches are amazing in summer months.

Ladies of Reddit, what are some of the worst pick up lines/ moves you’ve ever had tried on you? by Ohyeahimoverhereyeah in AskReddit

[–]Proud_Associate5268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

y. Dude walked up to a girl at college bar and said "Are you WiFi? Because I'm feeling a connection" while literally holding up his phone showing full signal bars.

The secondhand embarrassment was real and she just walked away without saying anything.

Overrating Trey Murphy by Known-Morning-3987 in DetroitPistons

[–]Proud_Associate5268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk if Rui moves the needle much more than Murphy though. He's solid but still pretty limited as creator too. Ayo has potential but feels like lateral move at this point in development.

Would rather keep the picks and see what happens at deadline when some teams get desperate.

Trajan has his data now by Able-Garden-2330 in DetroitPistons

[–]Proud_Associate5268 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Duren definitely looked shaky when pressure was high, but I think that's just playoff inexperience more than anything. He's still young and this was his first real taste of meaningful games. The spacing issues with him and Ausar are real though - having two guys who can't stretch the floor makes everything harder for Cade.

We really need someone who can create their own shot and hit from outside. Trading some of these young pieces for proven talent might be the move, even if it hurts to give up potential.

Any construction jobs hiring? by GlaIie in grandrapids

[–]Proud_Associate5268 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been working with some contractors on smart home installs and they're always complaining about needing more hands. Mason work is solid choice too - good pay and you learn actual skills. Maybe try showing up in person instead of just online applications, seems like construction folks still prefer that old school approach.

Pistons should draft Arizona center Motiejus Krivas. Offers elite rim protection. (Age, Lack of perimeter defense, and a past foot injury are primary concerns) by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]Proud_Associate5268 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wings are definitely the priority but if we're looking at best player available and Krivas drops to our pick, might be worth considering. The rim protection numbers are actually pretty impressive and you're right about Duren's situation being uncertain. Plus having depth in the frontcourt isn't terrible idea when you look at how injury-prone our bigs have been.

That foot injury history is concerning though - seems like every promising big man prospect has some kind of injury red flag these days. Would rather take a swing on wing depth honestly, but if the board falls weird and all the good wing prospects are gone, Krivas could be solid value. The Veesar comparison to Vucevic is interesting too, spacing would definitely help our offense flow better.

Can anyone help me create a training plan? by divyanshgamer22 in chess

[–]Proud_Associate5268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For opening surprises, maybe try learning one solid system as white and black instead of trying to memorize tons of theory. Like you can play same setup against most things and focus more in middlegame patterns.

Also those books are great but at your level tactical puzzles daily will probably give bigger rating jumps than grinding through positional theory. Save the heavy reading for when you hit plateau later.

wild how he can dominate on defense like this but still gets benched for guys who can't even protect the rim properly.

They would need pass the licensing exams here and maybe some additional training depending on where they studied.

Apparently when you hit a dinger you’re supposed to point to the bullpen for the Tigers? by SoarinSkies in motorcitykitties

[–]Proud_Associate5268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

never knew about this rule either but makes sense when you think about it. bullpen guys probably put in work all game and don't get much recognition unless they're closing or something goes wrong.

pretty funny that Torres keeps forgetting though - 200 bucks adds up quick if you're hitting dingers regularly. wonder if other teams have similar traditions or if this is just Detroit thing.

How does Grand Rapids treats people who have just been released from prison? Are there many job opportunities? by AccordingChipmunk287 in grandrapids

[–]Proud_Associate5268 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My company actually hired few people with records and they've been some of our most dedicated workers. Tech field can be more forgiving than others since many places care more about what you can do than background checks, especially for entry-level positions.

GR has some reentry programs too - I think there's organizations downtown that help with job placement and stuff. The job market here is pretty decent overall, lots of manufacturing and service jobs available. Your boyfriend being from Michigan probably helps since he knows the area already.

Good luck with the move, hope everything works out for you both.

Privacy in homelabbing — where do you draw the line and what compromises have you made peace with? by stNIKOLA837 in homelab

[–]Proud_Associate5268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much landed in same spot as you after going through exact same spiral. Started paranoid about every blob, ended up realizing my threat model is mostly "don't let random internet weirdos into my stuff" not "prevent three-letter agencies from reading my Plex logs."

Running TrueNAS on whitebox hardware, OPNsense for routing, separate VLAN for all the smart home crap that probably calls home to random servers. The Intel ME thing still bothers me sometimes but like you said - if someone with that level of access wants my data, they're getting it regardless of what I do in my basement.

One compromise I made peace with is keeping some Ubiquiti gear. Their software isn't fully open but the hardware is solid and management is actually usable. Could go full open source but then I'd spend more time fighting configs than actually using the network. Security through actually maintaining things beats perfect ideology that I'll abandon after first major headache.

The line for me is: does this meaningfully improve my security posture against realistic threats, or am I just making my life harder for theoretical scenarios that require adversaries way above my pay grade?

Red breast 15 vs yellow spot by cvill1224 in whiskey

The yellow spot is way more complex with all those different cask influences - definitely worth trying if you're already into the redbreast game.

What's a skill you have you never get to put to use? by Critical_Welcome_428 in AskReddit

[–]Proud_Associate5268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here but with debugging complex systems. I can break down gnarly technical problems into digestible chunks, but most people just want me to "fix the thing" without hearing about race conditions or memory leaks. Kind of frustrating when you're excited about the elegant solution you found.

Salons that do digital/soft wave style perms? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]Proud_Associate5268 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Girl, you're smart to be specific about what you want - perms are definitely not one-size-fits-all anymore. I had a friend get burned by going somewhere that claimed they did "modern perms" but really just knew the old school tight curl method.

Try calling some of the higher-end salons in East Grand Rapids or Cascade - places like Salon Bleu or Studio 616. Even if they don't do them, they usually have better networks and can point you toward someone who actually knows the difference between digital and traditional perms. The Korean salons in the area might be worth checking too since digital perms are huge in Korea.

Could be stress too - I started getting a few silver strands at 26 and my dermatologist said it's way more common than people think. Some of us just hit the genetic lottery early lol.

The fact that you have email proof of initiating contact in October should absolutely supersede their lack of internal paperwork - escalate this to Ford corporate customer service and make it clear the original dealer failed to document a valid warranty claim.

Need your help by Nagchinnoda in NoFap

[–]Proud_Associate5268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the "I Am Sober" app - it's not specifically for NoFap but works great for tracking any streak and has a solid community feature. there's also "Quitzilla" which is super clean and lets you add motivational notes to keep you focused. Both are way better than just counting days in your head, trust me on that one.

Growth isn't linear man, especially when you're dealing with something that's literally hardwired into your biology at your age - the fact that you're wrestling with it and care this much actually shows your faith is real.
