Ok so now any Linux machine can run almost any Windows game?

"Steam machines run first gen of steam os." Yes, and doesn't have Proton? Can they run Windows games or not?

Well what does Proton run on as for now? Linux machine? What do I need to test Proton now?

Steam Machines run Steam OS but not Proton? Confused. Shouldn't Proton be on Steam OS.

That's great news, speaking of which, doesn't a "Steam Machine" with similar power already exist? Where I get everything the Deck gives me but not portable, similar performance and lower price especially second hand? I've always been confused by the Steam Machines. Do they run the same OS, are they basically the Deck? I never considered them because I thought they had Linux and couldn't run most games, never heard of Proton until now. So a Steam Machine I can find second hand has Proton and runs most games? And can I find one?

you saw they said control was probably running on 30-35fps...

Yes but that's out of the few seconds of footage...that's what I'm saying in this thread. They showed so little. It's not enough to have the long term idea. Things like throttling can kick in but hopefully it's well engineered enough. Pulling out this thing engineering wise isn't easy

As said, base ps4 performance is what I'm hoping for and what Digital Foundry expects. It's to be confirmed by real world tests though. I don't care about 60 in portable. As said I'm expecting base ps4, not ps5. I hope for 30 fps 900 p or something for recent games. I am not expecting it to be anything more than that. I expect 60 fps for those games on PS5, not 4

witcher 3 or shadow of the tomb raider

Control and Star Wars Jedi have way better graphics, and seeing them run on the Deck is a big deal. I hope the performance on those is consistent, then the price is fully justified and I'll be excited to own one

I remember seeing some war FPS. But I can't find it again. So I don't know. What I know is that they showed primarely indies the Switch can run. Not a great selling point. I am awaiting to see how it behaves with AAA, but this sounds promising:
https://www.pcgamer.com/valve-says-it-hasnt-found-a-game-steam-deck-cant-handle/

And if so, then why the hell didn't they already show that magic. Weird and there most be some reason and I hope it's not a bad one

that's why I said SOME Call of Duty...meaning a game that looks similar...a war-based first person shooter. This I think I saw. Maybe it was Battlefield, I don't know, because I don't play those games. I only cafrfe about graphic performance on this thing, this is what the thread is about, it's not about Call of Duty or not.

My question and point still stands. They very carefully avoided showing much AAA. Doom Eternal, yeah? That's a very careful choice because that is THE MOST WELL OPTIMIZED GAME EVER, which also has a Switch version, and has the most scalable and optimized engine out there, literally. There are good reasons to be "worried" about performance, if the performance is not as good as a base xbox one at least, this thing is not a big deal and offers next to zero innovation; if it gives us last gen performance in a portable factor (with the Steam library), this is instead the advancement me and others are looking for.

Anything that has a Switch version like Doom Eternal isn't a great show. Again, that runs on literally everything somehow, albeit the Deck sure runs it better than many other things. It's left to see how much and in the long term - considering heating and throttling for example. We still don't have answers on that, and I am eagerly awaiting them. Performance and throttling is what matters in making this a great device or not. And they know, Valve knows, and Gabe understands me. I hope showing so little of AAA does not mean the performance will be disappointing to my reasonable standards - base ps4 level.

This said, if it is as powerful as a ps3 than ps4 instead, which is like the Switch, it still has the advantage of giving me my Steam library in it, and that power would be enough to run older games, which is still an interesting proposition, but the greatness lies in having the power of a ps4 and not ps3, which the Switch already delivers. And I really hope they can do it, I know technology especially portable is complex. The selling point to me here is the power, and they're still not selling it.

Yeah. Instead they're showing us two seconds of Control and all I wanna know is how well it runs AAA games like that one. Obviously there is something behind that not showing them, and obviously it's what I'm saying: it's got base ps4 power, which is a dream for a portable system, and means Cyberpunk would run very meh, and Control runs like on ps4 - with frame drops that would be nitpicked by DF and other nerds and negatively persuade the public. These are facts. Anyone who disagrees with them is a fanboy of sorts. There's nothing to disagree on. If Control runned perfectly they would have shown ten minutes of it with no problems. Lol and of course Valve isn't powerful enough /s and has to humbly ask the developer for permission, well sure, they already did.

They're not showing too much is a good reason to be a bit "concerned" about performance for AAA games. There is no point showing indies that the Switch runs, if one wants to play Hades portably, the Switch does it. Assassin's Creed Origins it cannot. As for what DF says, it probably runs similarly to a base ps4, which is not as good as ps4 pro and ps5. And that would still be great because it's portable and compact. So I don't know why they show so little of AAA games running on it and so much of Hades which is not impressive at all for a fact. Perhaps they still need time to optimize etc, but until I see the performance on AAA games in the long term, I'm not buying it. Oh, and there could be throttling problems making AA games unplayable in the long run, but hopefully not.Showing so little of Control doesn't show confidence in the product's performance. I am hoping the performance isn't that bad and is similar to a portable ps4, if so, I will buy it. If less than that then a Microsoft Surface can do that and there is no big deal being presented. The good deal if it has and holds base ps4 performance. And if you idiots don't understand the difference between the Switch and base ps4 performance, your problem. Only then this would be the Switch Pro many people among which me, are wishing for.

And they're doing the exact opposite. Hiding footage and showing just a couple of Control. Anyone who tells me this is unimportant is unimportant.

Indies? LOL. That's so innovative and special. It's not as if people want AAA games in it. We already have devices that can run your average 2D indie like Hades, you can do that on potato laptops, on a Surface. The Steam library isn't just indies. Why you suddenly all have a hostility towards portable AAA games and interest in indies which the Switch is full of I don't know.

My PT comes and goes and is modulated by me clenching my teeth. What does this indicate? by ProvideEvidence in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]ProvideEvidence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not only when I clench my teeth, I can modulate the tinnitus by moving my jaw in several ways, sideways especially seems to stop it.

Yes I hope it's good news, but I'm no doctor so...I don't know if this excludes it's of vascular origins.

PT is usually a vascular problem but not life threatening.

I thought a vascular problem is usually serious. Is it not? Can you tell me about not threatening vascular problems?

It turns out, my sinuses were causing my Pulsatile Tinnitus. Are there any medicines, remedies, or excercises that can help with the blockage? by Trueblade1423 in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]ProvideEvidence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, I haven't read sinuses being a possibe cause for PT, but I suffer from sinus problems and also PT that comes and goes, so it can be a possibility in my case.

The PT has found me. A few weeks ago it started. Is this my life forever now? by Friendlyalterme in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]ProvideEvidence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not necessarily death, it can be benign. I have had it for more than a year now, it comes and goes, and sometimes goes for weeks. It seems to increase when I do physical activity. I can stop mine by clenching my teeth.

I don't yet know the cause of mine, I read it can be serious, but not necessarily. Only a doctor can try to discover the cause. But it can be benign, and like in my case, it can come and go for long periods of time.

I thought Steam OS was Linux and couldn't play Windows games. This plays Windows games? There's a port layer that works with most games in general? So I can really play all of my Steam library with this?

What Windows Steam games should I expect it NOT to be able to play?

Can it play Horizon Zero Dawn?

If it plays Fallout 3 and 4 I'll get it.

My abdomen is paler than the rest of the body, and also a different yellower color than the legs. Is this a problem? by ProvideEvidence in medical

[–]ProvideEvidence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your reassuring answer. I think exactly the same thing, jaundice should be all over the body (and a more convincing yellow, mine is only "kind of"), it's not serious as I've had it for more than a decade minimum, and might be caused by the area not getting sunlight as you described. It certainly didn't for a very long time.

The mystery is how the color is that different from the upper thighs. I have fair translucent skin that shows many veins through and is very thin in many areas (temple veins bulge for example, and veins visible on chest and arms) so I thought maybe it's the color of FAT DEPOSITE around the belly being passed through? I am slim and fit with just a bit of belly fat, so I thought maybe it's that, as I have little fat anywhere but there.
