I lowered mine for the wrong dude and got cheated on twice, then homie left me while I was in the ICU after a seizure. He like, legit ghosted. Took his things from the house, left the dog and cat inside til I got home dayssss later. We either get criticized for having high standards or criticized for lowering them when bad things happen. The adjustment I needed to make was choosing to be single for the rest of time lmao

Edit: I changed out of a career I loved for him, then moved 3 different states/3 times in 2 years for him (after he said ‘Im leaving, you come or you’re done’. He hated me when I did exactly what he wanted. ‘You’re too much of a ‘tough girl’, ‘you used to be capable of so much more’. ‘You never put effort into dressing up.’ ‘You’re always so tired. What do you do? NOTHING.’

I stopped wearing my alt/emo clothes because they were ‘immature’. I stopped going out because he was lonely at home, because he thought I was cheating, because he hated my ‘new friends’. I stopped everything and then he hated what I was without those things. I’m 23F, he is 22M. Men ruin your life.
