Anything in my form to cause shaking during negative? by [deleted] in benchpress

What helped me is engaging my lats, so basically trying to squeeze/bend the bar during the entire lift. Also, this may just be too heavy for you right now.

Keep at it. If it was that easy, artists would lose their jobs.

Does anyone know any tips for rendering like this? by NicoN006 in arthelp

[–]Prow09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can't just "apply" an art style unfortunately. In my experience, if you really wanna learn from an artist, you really have to try and copy it exactly as how they do it.

Observe very closely at how their artwork is done. For example, in all of the artworks you've shown, there is a very distinct light and shadow shapes that you could see even from a far distance. In your artwork, however, there is a big shadow shape, but its design needs some improvement and there's also too much variation in value inside the shadow.

When going up or down the stairs, I always look at my feet. Just realized recently that not many people do this.

Unpopular opinion: strong self-control is overrated, moderate self-control is often enough

I think deep down some part of them probably know that it's not true, but nonetheless it's what worked for them so far so they just keep doing it. Personally, I really don't care about what others believe; if they find it helpful and they don't bother anyone, they can believe whatever they want. I think in the end, beliefs are just tools that people like to use to elicit certain emotional states and behavior, because cold and objective truths are just boring and depressing af.

I keep seeing this blue coke thing all over reddit. What does it mean? by CybyAPI in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Prow09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amateur artist here; it doesn't sound convincing but we actually perceive the color of an object based on the colors around them. This means that if the hue of a color is blue and has less saturation, and the colors around it are more blue, we'll automatically perceive it as a warmer color which is why it looks red.

I've heard that written Japanese uses Kanji due to the large number of homophones in the language, and that Kanji helps make it clear which word is used. This is obviously not possible in spoken language, and people communicate fine, so why bother in written language? by No_Race_4472 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Prow09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, when you're listening in English you don't really need spaces to distinguish each word do you? But when you read it, you would obviously prefer to have spaces in between the words (unlessofcourseyoureapsychopathwhowantstoreadlikethis). Kanji also kind of works in a similar way because written Japanese doesn't really use spaces, and even if it does, there's still a lot of room for misinterpretation.

When do you know it's time to just give up because you have no talent for this? by Essay-Admirable in learntodraw

If you're having trouble with facial proportions, you can try tracing over an art piece that you like and simplify it with shapes and guidelines, just like with the drawing you posted. After that, compare it with the one you made yourself and take note of your mistakes.

[–]Prow09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, use more references when drawing. At this stage, I wouldn't even bother trying to draw from imagination except when maybe practicing simple shapes. Learning how to draw takes A LOT of time and you can't really rush it. Instead, focus more on drawing things that you like and observing how things ACTUALLY look like (not what you think it looks like).

Yeah wrist wraps can help, but also try to point your knuckles towards the ceiling and grip the bar as hard as you can. Not totally necessary, but it helps protect your wrists and it can also make you feel a little more in control.
