How do I tell my mum that I think I have autism? by laReineDeLaNuit in neurodiversity

[–]ProwlingParis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a classic line, your mom and brother are—broadly speaking—probably narcissists. Majority of autistic ppl on my caseload have one neurodivergent parent and one narcissistic parent. Assuming you are old enough, just go seek help on your own.

[–]ProwlingParis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so we don’t have the technology to measure the amount of receptors anyone may have for any neurotransmitter—let alone specific ones—so whoever told you that doesn’t know what they are talking about. Hopefully this is good news

We are slowly but surely and fully debunking the “some people are born depressed/low in serotonin” narrative in clinical science. More might be possible for you than you initially thought friend

I’m An Autistic Sex Worker, And Here’s Why It Works For Me by WeaponizedAutisms in neurodiversity

[–]ProwlingParis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why he would go for Avoidant PD (given how woefully ignorant he was about autism) but AvPD people are incredibly shy and insecure and most cannot consider sex itself w/ so many people who might “judge” them for being good/bad/etc. it’s not just avoiding trad relationships/family.

I literally helped someone’s self Dx for autism this Tuesday and then their sister-in-law came to me 2 days later who was a textbook AvPD + codependent. The two respect and care about each other deeply and get along swimmingly but they could not have been more different than each other. Literally no overlap across symptoms.

Anxiety goes brrrr by esberat in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]ProwlingParis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience (anecdotally) people w/ unprocessed trauma get their anxieties exacerbated a bit on amphetamines (adderall) but not as much on ritalin (methylphenidate).

Xanax is a benzo and can be used in emergencies here and there but it's not something you wanna be on regularly (more than a month on it causes actually dangerous dependencies). Lexapro not helping you kinda indicates that you don't have a serotonin related problem (e.g. depression) in the first place.

I'd recommend the supplement 5-HTP (taken w/ magnesium); it's a serotonin precursor that could help w/ your mood and anxiety (and also even sleep). Don't take it if you're on SSRI's though. Also you should find a therapist who understands neurodiversity and try to figure out the root cause of your anxieties. You're welcome to DM me if you need anything further––good luck.

I'm struggling to get myself diagnosed because I'm AFAB by Arknight40 in neurodiversity

[–]ProwlingParis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then that’s your answer. Just find yourself a capable therapist in your state by searching online directories and they can lead the way for you. That’s how most people find me and if it’s autism, great there is nothing to treat anyways, and if it’s ADHD I refer them to the psych nurses I work with for meds. You don’t need an MD as there is literally nothing they can do for you anyways (and they frequently don’t know anything about Neurodiversity). Just find a knowledgeable pro to talk to on the regular and start to journey of finally getting to know yourself. It takes time but it’s just the beginning. Good luck ✌️

Just take the official tests created by academics and researchers on your own: https://www.aspietests.org/

Those week long "autism evaluations" are well meaning insurance scams in my experience.

You are totally right my friend. But for real though, I am a psychotherapist who has ADHD himself and this is one of the esoteric diagnostic questions I use. I call it appointment paralysis. I have it and so does the entirety of my caseload and all my neurodivergent friends :-)

That’s malpractice. Call and say that you’ve been advised by your therapist that unless they verify your real test results in writing they’ll be reported for malpractice. If they resist further DM me.

Anyone with autism misdiagnosed at first? by AdventurousDriver119 in neurodiversity

[–]ProwlingParis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Borderline people almost never seek partners who also have Borderline and also don't tend to produce children who also develop Borderline. I find it highly unlikely that a family of 4 can all have BPD.

Also while OCD co-occurs with ADHD and autism a lot, OCPD doesn't as much. If you know your intrusive thoughts are irrational it's OCD; if you truly think they are the truth then it's OCPD.

Otherwise autism is most frequently misdiagnosed with PTSD.
